Today, I present an update featuring a pair of the Dwarf faction's heroes. Enjoy.

Gloin and Gimli lead a party of Khazad-Uzbadul into battle

Gloin, the venerable father of Gimli, was one of Thorin Oakenshield's twelve companions during the Quest for Erebor. Sent by Dain to the Council of Elrond with his son, he joins the fight against the evil pouring from Mordor.

In The Dwarf Holds, Gloin holds the position of early game hero. Because of his advanced age, his offensive power is not his strength, but he retains the stubborn toughness inherent to all Dwarves, reflected in his health and armour values. He also functions as a support hero, sporting several useful abilities. Gloin's knowledge of Middle-Earth through his travels allows him to increase the speed of nearby units slightly, and skills of survival gained give him the abilities needed to heal nearby troops and heroes. At later levels his Emissary ability grants him near-invincibility - potentially very useful when deploying his support skills. He can also use cunning and skill to lay a trap for units, immobilizing them if they enter its effect radius. The trap remains so long as Gloin maintains it - if he is moved, the trap immediately dissipates.

Enemies moving over the rune inscribed in the ground are immobilized, and easy prey for the waiting Rakhas-udrig.

Gimli, moved from Rohan to aid his Dwarven kin, has also received a few improvements. At Level 5, his assaying and prospecting abilities allow him to boost a single Dwarf Mine's income. At Level 8, he dons upgraded armour from the forges of Erebor, increasing his defence slightly. These changes make Gimli even more versatile on the battlefield.

I don't think so, if you look at the other pictures its not shown there. And you know Nert, he would obliviously remove the ugly house colors.

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

I had the meaning of life in my signature, but it exceeded the character limit.

I don't think House colors are bad. They're really quite important. If they were done properly they'd be great. But that can add a lot of space to a mod (.tga with alpha is way more than the .dds for a normal texture.)
Greetings, community.

Don't you mean obviously?

Yeah I do(Stupid Spell Check), and the house colors are ugly, I can't stand them.

I would do house colours if I had the time and motivation to do them. Gfire is right in that they might be alright if done right (proper, logical locations on the models and a more muted colour scheme). They're not that important though - my limited research indicates that people don't play mirror matches. By the way, dxt5 (interp. alpha) vs dxt1 texture compression is only around 30% different.

Of course, if Gfire feels like drawing colour maps for oh... five hundred textures, I'll gladly hire him :crazed:

Haha... no thanks.

Ea didn't do too bad a job on the house colors, but I'm guessing there are a lot of new textures in this mod, and that's a lot of work.

That doesn't really factor in for me. Reception is a good reason to continue working, but actual motivation comes (for me) from the desire to accomplish my visions. These updates are to give some people an idea of what to expect.

Gfire... I don't konw how you can justify that :S. EA's house colours tended to do things like colour armour when there were easily other areas on textures that wouldn't look as ridiculous that could be coloured.

I haven't looked closely but I never noticed a lot of problem in game myself. If it's things like armor, that yeah, that's pretty dumb.

Oh yeah, I did notice on the Gondor soldier... Isn't the whole chest where the tree is covered by the house color? They look pretty silly with green platemail. I'd love to redo house textures, but the house actually covers over the skin, right? So If I colored EA's original skins it wouldn't look right with new skins?

Actually, the Soldier's shield is totally green with a black 'white' tree.
It never bugged me until I started playing mods, which disabled the house colouring. And it's like a drug... can't play without it :p
If the above post offended you in any way,
please take note that, until further notice, I don't care, so get lost.

I've always wanted to keep House Colours, only make them, well... nice :p

There's always parts of a unit that can be dyed to the house colour.. Of course, you shouldn't let let show 100%, because bright bright pink isn't nice on... very much at all :xcahik_:
But a dark shade of blue or green, yellow, red or purple on a Gondor soldier who's armored, but has some cloth to show off, could be nice..

For Rohan, which has primary colours, it might be different... or, well, could go the whole way and dye the capes pink

Are those Haradrim units gonna replace the old spear-thrower-type-guys?

Woo someone noticed my bonus content! Yes, they will replace the lancers in function, though they will have the exact same gameplay statistics
