Mathijs : (24 April 2014 - 08:47 PM) Yeah I was just cleverly pointing out the spelling error.
LenwŽ the Lu... : (24 April 2014 - 08:56 PM) Yeah I was wondering where do u live if u don't know what McDonald's is?
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 09:07 PM) Yeah I was thinking that as well. Probably at the bottom of ethnic Freudian hell where he has nothing better to do but to make grammar themed jokes with William Faulkner.
Mathijs : (24 April 2014 - 09:27 PM) I corrected spelling, not grammar.
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 09:35 PM) Spelling is a subcategory of grammar. But yea... don't. It just ticks me off.
Mathijs : (24 April 2014 - 09:37 PM) Spelling can be dictated by grammar, but it's not a 'subcategory'. Dudududududududududududududududududu
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 09:47 PM) It absolutely is. Spelling is a component of grammar, as in, it is good grammar to spell well. As in, it is good anthropology when I perform archaeology well, and archaeology is certainly a subcategory of anthropology. And when one mentions anthropology or grammar, it does not necessarily imply their categories, yet their categories are still an important component in these fields.
Mathijs : (24 April 2014 - 09:55 PM) It really isn't defined as such, though. You should take my word for it (I'm a linguist), because I'm not going to debate facts  :p
Mathijs : (24 April 2014 - 09:56 PM) You could google it, by the way.
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 10:00 PM) If I needed to Google it, then I should have no say in the debate if I cannot use my own knowledge on the matter. And it doesn't take a linguist to have a debate on the informational sciences.
Mathijs : (24 April 2014 - 10:04 PM) wat? There's no two ways about it, so there can't be a debate. Spelling is not grammar, nor is it a 'subcategory' of grammar. This is a simple fact.
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 10:09 PM) That's not a fact at all. There are are professors that teach spelling, and their field is under the "language & grammar" fields. I have the University of Evansville schedule right here. An informational science expert formally categorized a series of Asiatic spelling classes under grammar. I'll even ask the professor tomorrow, sir.
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 10:10 PM) Now I'm going to go get food while you decided if this conversation is retarded or not yet.
Mathijs : (24 April 2014 - 11:05 PM) Okay. https://www.google.n...923.Hxl6d6NKufA
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 11:11 PM) See a lot of nonacademic nonsense and no actual answers.
Gen.Kenobi : (24 April 2014 - 11:13 PM) Give us scientific facts, not a bunch of random yahoo answers.
Pasidon : (24 April 2014 - 11:39 PM) Oh. My apologies. Took a quick look in J-Stor. Spelling is not a subcategory of grammar. But semantics is. So spelling is a sub-subcategory of grammar. "The same types of analysis applied to the subcategory scores showed that mainly discussion and listening within communication, instructional reading within reading, and semantics within grammar." (Otter, Mellenbergh, Blok, Van Dan Bergh, 1992) http://www.jstor.org...prevSearch= And yes, before you start, semantics does contain spelling in it as a subcategory, as is even in my recent notes on Hellenistic Greek literature. You'll have to take that debate with Homer now.
Alastarr1 : (25 April 2014 - 01:25 AM) So, what are you fellows talking about?
Alastarr1 : (25 April 2014 - 01:25 AM) Oh, this was hours ago, nevermind.
Pasidon : (25 April 2014 - 01:53 AM) Bunch of useless garbage that no one actually cares about.
