Hello,

I found my old CnC Generals Zero Hour disks (german version) and thought I give a try.

Tried to install it (Windows 7) but disc1 could not be read because block 800ish was unreadable. So I used "CDCheck" and was able to create an image of my disks, mount them into Daemon Tools Lite and install the game from the image, entering my hardly readable/bleached out CD key. Then I succesfully patched the game to 1.04

However when trying to launch the game I always get the error that I should insert the correct disk, despite disk1 and disk2 being mounted.

So I downloaded a no-cd crack, downloaded GenTool and was able to launch the game.

However when I try to log in I get the error "cannot connect to generals zero hour online". (Entering a wrong cnc-online.net password gives the error wrong password so at least he recognizes the account but then fails)

I'm running the game in WIndows XP SP3 compatibility mode and with administrator rights as recommended by the gentools faq for connection errors.

Also in the settings there are just two 192.168... local IPs listed and not my current internet IP if that's important.

The FAQ on cnc-online.net says "You can use C&C:Online so long as you haven't cracked your games." but my GenTools tells me I have a "normal game install" when I launch the game.

So now here I am and don't know on which problem I should focus on, fixing the launch without a no-cd crack or the connection issue with crack?

So I decided to buy the The Ultimate Collection on Origin. Now CnC Generals ZH english version 1.04, still Windows 7.

- GenTools 7.2 installed.

- The other launcher not installed

- I launch both origin and the game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and with administrator rights.

- I disabled the "origin in game" thingy

- I disabled my OpenVPN adapter

- I tried all 4 combinations of my two 192..IPs and with/without "firewall port override 16000"

- I allow CnC to communicate through windows firewall

Always the error could not connect to generals zero hour online.

I do not have an CNCOnline_Log.txt file in my %TEMP% directory.

If you are just using gentools without the C&C:Online launcher (which you should be) you won't generate an error log.    However, if the game is starting successfully and showing the Gentool start up, then this is almost certainly a networking error.          I suggest restarting your router and looking for possible issues with your connection.         You should leave the firewall port override off at this stage.

Please could you open a command prompt (hit run and then run "cmd"), type IPCONFIG and then enter and take a screenshot of the result?

What do server logs say?

There is an indication of some connectivity but not into peer chat.    Unfortunately, the log is not usually particularly informative when it comes to this kind of problem, save to show whether there has been a connection.

So...hopeless situation? All other games, programs, irc, websites etc. don't have connection issues.

It looks like the problem that usually arises with an intercepting VPN connection. Even though you clearly disabled all adapters, can you try to uninstall any services, background processes of this kind of software?

"To know what question we may reasonably propose is in itself a strong evidence of sagacity or intelligence. For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

Uninstalled OpenVPN and rebooted, no changes. Thanks for the effort though.

did you try uninstalling your anti virus software? these often cause fuckups of that nature by design.

Hmm that looks funky. But should be no issue for the game. Just a bug in updater.

So I tried to install everything on my laptop and it worked flawlessly, so it's not the routers fault.

What's the best way to purge my main pc from everything CCG and GenTool related without formatting so I can try a last clean installation?

Updated to Win10 in the meantime btw.

I had the exact same problem as SackZement and wanted to add some information.

I have a router(2) setup to extend my wifi signal (connected through the one (1) downstairs), which my pc is also connected to. I had the exact same problem and tried everything from the troubleshooting page, nothing worked until... i plugged the cable from router 1 in my pc, tried C&C zh and could login directly. The second i let my internet go through router 2 again i get "the cannot connect to online" message again.

I've done a fast search but i couldn't find anything directly related to this issue. Does someone know as to why router 2 would block C&C online?

Router model: 300N X3

Do you have router 2 set to a pure wireless extension mode? Do you get the same IP address no matter which router you connect to?

I had the same issue 'could not connect to C&C Generals Zero Hour Online' and it turns out that the Antivirus was frustrating me.

I'm running McAfee 8.7i and it blocked it. after disabling the on-access scanner it it runs very smoothly. I hope it helps someone!
