C&C RA3 - not starting when using CnC-Online-Launcher

Best Answer ToxicShock, 12 February 2016 - 12:21 PM

There is no need to hook when using Origin. Hooking is recommended with Steam (although not always necessary). I think if you have the option to use Origin, it would be worth your while using it at the moment (even though that would involve a re-install). Go to the full post

Hi everybody,

some days ago me and a friend remembered the great feeling of playing C&C RA3, so we want to make a online game. After the first shock that gamespy isn't provided anymore we found the posibility with CnC-Online but it's also not working for me. :-(

I've run the Launcher as admin and use compatibility-mode for win7 as found here in the forum. i also created a shortcut to the desktop and think this would be hooked. when im going to hook the game there is no confirmation or anything written? but when im trying to start the game after hooking there's only the start-window of RA3 shown some seconds and then its going down without any written problems or anything else. if i'm starting the game without hooking it starts directly and without any problems (but no online-gaming).

hope anyone can help me. here are the data's you'll need to know:

Version: RA3 Standart Version on Steam

Error: Game won't start after hooking

System: Windows 7 64bit HP

Error-Log-File:

----- C&C:Online Launcher Start -----
Game: Red Alert 3
Red Alert 3 Install Path: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer Red Alert 3\
Started game with: "RA3.exe "
Caught CREATE_PROCESS_DEBUG_EVENT from Red Alert 3. Detaching...
ERROR: game.dat process not found.

thank u very much for your help.

greetings,
robbie

Please could you unhook (from the launcher) and delete the Shortcut. Then run steam as Administrator (right click the icon to bring up the menu). Then make another desktop shortcut. The run the launcher "as administrator" (in the same way) and hook the game. Then try to launch again and report back. If the game did not start, please could you post your error log again when you do that.

We are working on a much better way of launching games (including Steam games) but until that is released, you'll need to do it that way.

thanks for your help...

EDIT: this error-message only appeared the first time, now when im still trying to start the game nothing happened and no message is shown.

Please could you delete your error log, try to log in again and then post the new log. I'm not clear which log entry is which now.

the first posting i've done yesterday was when i tried to start the game for the first time after your instructions, the "edit-post" was the issue of error-log trying it againand again and again.

i've now deleted the cnconline-log-file and done all the instructions from the beginning to the end but now there's also nothing happen. :-( for a few seconds the start-window of RA3 and than nothing. no text and nothing else. also there is still no confirmation when hooking. but when i'm starting the game without hooking it works, so i think its hooked.

thats the actuall error-log (the same like at the beginning of our journey):

----- C&C:Online Launcher Start -----
Game: Red Alert 3
Red Alert 3 Install Path: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer Red Alert 3\
Started game with: "RA3.exe "
Caught CREATE_PROCESS_DEBUG_EVENT from Red Alert 3. Detaching...
ERROR: game.dat process not found.

I think you will have to hook.

Please delete your error log and try that way again. This time, please could you deactivate your anti-virus programs (if any) before you start. You will not necessarily get a confirmation that hooking was successful, so don't worry about that.

Then post your error log again please.

...i have deactivated the antivirus (G-Data) completely and folled the instructions again step by step but the result is still the same :-( :

----- C&C:Online Launcher Start -----
Game: Red Alert 3
Red Alert 3 Install Path: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer Red Alert 3\
Started game with: "RA3.exe "
Caught CREATE_PROCESS_DEBUG_EVENT from Red Alert 3. Detaching...
ERROR: game.dat process not found.

do you know if it is better to try the cnc-online hook when not using steam and instead using origin? cause i've seen there's an option to give in the game-key in origin i can add the game also there. but than i have to reinstall but i don't know if this will fix any poblem?

Work is underway for a much better solution that will work with all game versions and not require fiddling with hooking, etc. of any kind. Until that is ready, the best we can do is help.
