There's probably one question that anyone who has played the mod has asked themselves: what is a New Republic star destroyer doing as a beginning battleship in a game that's supposed to start out in 18 BBY? Well, there really is no good short answer, but the long answer is that the Rebels were lacking an early battleship-sized unit that is strongly associated with their cause. Being hesitant to add CIS ships to the Alliance fleet (because they really are two distinct movements), the Republic-class seemed like the obvious choice. I have, however, made an exception for a certain design that was stolen from the Mon Calamari Shipyards... so without further introduction, I present to you the new starting battleship, the Recusant-class Light Destroyer!

Compared to the other battleships, this one is odd; it's armament is really more fitting for an upscaled cruiser. The Recusant has a moderate amount of turbolasers, but the majority of its firepower resides in its lasers, which makes it utterly devastating against smaller ships. Coupled with a 60-cannon point-defense system, this ship really is a bomber pilot's worst nightmare; even devastating the advanced Nova Wing. But true to form, it can't stand up to just about anything of a similar size, as you can see from its stats in the Units section.

This model is also exceptional in that it is, as far as I know, the most turreted unit anyone has ever attempted for EaW. No less than 38 individually tracking turrets line its hull in an unprecedented display of realism. But, of course, I'm just getting started, so stick around.

sounds great

Like the idea of superior trackin ability with this one, the empire usually has the market for the heavier weapons, with the rebels using more gurilla and starfighter tactics. This ship makes a great strong support ship for covering fighter squads on bombing runs, while being able to dish out damage in nearly every angle.

Great job with the turrenting looks awesome how long did that take?

Also can i ask on a side note, was wondering since many mods havnt tactled this due to difficult skinning and sizeing issues (apart from XWA:upgrade), whether you thought about the MC-40 since its quite a cannoical ship, fitting in with pre BY timeline

Very nice, that will be excellent against pesky swarms of Imperial TIE Fighters.

So it was a Mon Cal design ? Its far less organic looking than most of their other ships.

Great model, Phoenix. I love the Recusant. I must say, though, that model looks a bit more round than I thought. Wasn't the Recusant more flat? Maybe it was just the view I had of it.... :xcahik_:

It was kind of a trial and error process; so I wasn't really timing it, but probably at least 24 hours start to finish. It was a very difficult ship to rig firing bones for, but I think it has good coverage (see below for the "schematics" I used).

I am a fan of the MC40, but you're right, collision meshes on curvy ships are nasty to do.

Honestly, it wastes starfighters. I was testing against pirate Rihkxyrks and with the right angle and power to weapons, it could destroy a squadron in 2 laser salvos (4 seconds) - and those are not flimsy ships. The best thing about having all those turrets is that they will target the closest fighter to the turret and not just the ship overall, so there's less wasted firepower.

So it was a Mon Cal design ? Its far less organic looking than most of their other ships.

It's a Mon Cal design, but I think you can definitely see the Quarren influences on it with the spikes and whatnot. My interpretation is that they either stole prototype blueprints and had to complete them, or they further modified the Calamari specs to fit the needs of their battledroids.

It's probably just the angle... not a great shot, but consistent with the others. Most of the lower hull is hidden from view. I need to do screenshots again, but I've just gone so crazy with changes lately that I haven't made the time.

The Rebels also had at least one modified Providence-Class ship called Rebel One. There's a good picture of it on Wookiepedia if anybody wants to see it. I just thought I'd mention it since we're talking about CIS ships.

Yeah. I'm just wary about turning this into too much of a Clone Wars mod, because there are so many of those out there already. At least the Munificent hasn't shown up in a Rebel fleet yet to my knowledge.

I'd be willing to bet he is thinking of the Munificent-class star frigate, which is the flater of the CIS ships.

Great work as always! The Recusant looks great, I can't wait to see all those turrets in action. That sort of attention to detail is what makes this mod the best, keep it up!
