Armed with Phoenix Rising-themed business cards and CDs of the latest release, I'm currently in San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference, a veritable who's who of industry professionals. While I search for someone willing to pay me to do what I love, check out these hot, fan-made topics in the forums:

Zarkis' work in exploring the AI has already led to a number of fixes and improvements that will make the v1.1 patch, and now he has released his own take on the AI. The Zarkis AI strives to address some of the deficiencies in the Galactic Conquest-mode AI from a production standpoint, so if you just can't wait for the patch, be sure to check this out.

If you're looking for more flash in your tactical experience, look no further than Dal MP's Aesthetics Pack. This pack focuses on making the turbolaser bolts look and feel better and also has an added side-effect of improving performance, so there's really no reason not to try it.

Last but not least, Dane Kiet is organizing a multiplayer Skirmish tournament, which is the perfect opportunity to check out multiplayer on PR if you haven't yet done so. This is especially true for those of you having issues with the AI - you'll be in for a few surprises against a live opponent. The tournament comes in 1 vs. 1 and 2 vs. 2 flavors and will commence as soon as there are enough players, so sign up today!

The Aesthetics pack looks awesome, you should incorporate that into the main mod, will you?!

I had always hoped to deal with multiple-barreled shots in that manner; I had just been putting it off because I couldn't be sure that the decrease in projectiles would outweigh the gain in graphics. But it seems to, although do post your findings just to corroborate. It'd be great to see a framerate comparison, but I can't recall if you could enable that in EaW or not. At any rate, it is on the docket.

Good luck at the conference Phoenix :)

Before i try the AI and effects mods, are they compatible with each other, and do they make any changes that could preclude online play with other users of PR? (ie, should i have seperate mod folders for each of PR, PR+AI, and PR+Effects)

EDIT: Is the version on your CDs the same as that already online, or is it a refined version?

They are fully compatible at the moment, but I'd still leave an unaltered PR mod folder around just for comparison and multiplayer.

and do they make any changes that could preclude online play with other users of PR?

All participants need to have identical files for multiplayer. I don't think any packs or fan-fixes are specified for use in the tournament (correct me if I'm wrong Dane), so you'd need an unaltered copy of PR for that.

Good luck in the conference Phoenix! We're rooting for you. ...now we just have to figure out how we can all steal a copy of that latest CD... *evil chuckle*

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

No, it's just plain version 1.0. I wish I had had the time to push out a newer version, but unfortunately I didn't (there was more to prepare for than I had initially thought). The mod's always in a state of semi-disarray in between releases - for example, the galaxy is rescaled, but still not wholly reconnected - so it requires some cleanup to become fully functional again.

Well, the "main" conference hasn't stared yet, but funny story about that. I found out that LA was hosting a company party at one of the local clubs tonight, so I walked all the way down there... in the rain, but unfortunately there was a guest list, so I couldn't get in. I think it was for the TFU team and a few VIPs, but I doubt the big man himself was there. So I'm a bit soggy, but otherwise undeterred :p. I got to see a handful of stormtroopers who were in charge of security though, so it was worth it.

Imperial Scum!

Best of luck to ya mate. I'm sure their'll be someone interested in someone with your sence of detail. Make sure you don't underexagerate your potential. You have to really advertise for yourself, with all the competiton in the gameing buissnes these days.

And there's still a beer with your name on it if your ever in Norway! An you better appriciate it, beer is well exspensive here. :/ (No i do not have the beer in my fridge, its a figure of speech)

Wow I did not expect they would do that.
"Just once, I'd like to destroy a starship that we didn't pay for!"
"Welcome to the jolly old death star."
"Vader gets the plesure of killing someone while we get to stay among the living. Private Perkins overhere has been stranged over 30 times haven't you Perkins." "Good man."

You gotta have some authenticity for a conference on Star Wars.

Need to defend against any possible rebel attacks you see...

I'd bet the Millennium Falcon that I could've gotten in had I dressed as the Secret Apprentice. I'd love to see the stormtroopers heckle me then :p.

Thanks. Yeah, it's still too early to know one way or another. Generally, if you don't make the initial cut, they won't even turn you down; they just say nothing. But, uh, not everything has played out yet; I'll just say that.

Half of these forums are off-topic and I should split topics more, but you're right; this one was a total non-sequitur. It's done.

Well it's over now. But it's starting to pay off. Actually, if you go on YouTube and search for it, I'm sure you can find videos from it.
