Name: Chinook
Side: Nod
ERA: Tiberian Dawn
Cost per use: $200
Base Asset:
namman2 (conversion to C&C3 by me)

Cheap, but reliable transport for Nod.

The Chinook replaces Nods 'Call for infantry transport' ability, the vehicle air transport remains untouched.

There is not much to say here, so let's get right to the differences vs the old transport.
First of all the most noticeable thing is that it is reasonably priced! It uses the Kane's Wrath pricing which should make it even more of an option rather than a luxury.
The Chinook is also slightly faster and has more health. Even the comically high experience points that an enemy would get for destroying the old transport has been made more reasonable, there really is no reason not to give this transport a go.

How? well you can try transporting engineers to distant tiberium spikes, or transporting them to distant husk that are waiting to be captured.
There is always the old option of trying to sneak a Chinook with an engineer into an opponents base to try and capture a key structure.

Now that the price is lower and the speed and amour is improved, you could also use the Chinook as a cheap aerial scout (you can use an infantry's 'call for transport' ability, and quickly move the infantry so the Chinook cancels its landing, then you are free to take control of the Chinook!), but remember that your enemy gets 1000 experience points if they take down your Chinook!

With the new low price and various improvements, there is no reason not to call for a Chinook today!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nod Commando has her own special Chinook.

What is special about it? Well apart from the snazzy black paint, the real speciality is the fact that it is a stealth Chinook!

As you can see it cost more than double the price of a normal Chinook, but the added bonus of it being stealthed, and the fact that it carries the most dangerous Nod infantry, more than makes up for the price hike!

Another benefit that you may want to weigh up before use, is the fact that the Commando's stealth Chinook is ready to use in half the time of the normal infantry Chinook. Which means that you might be able to use the stealth Chinook to get to a destination, and then after the Commando's mission is complete, call another Chinook to fly to another location!

Of course the main draw for this Chinook is the ease with which you can sneak a Commando into an enemies base.
If you feel that $500 is a reasonable price to pay for an aerial stealth scout (it is!), then you can use the same trick as with the normal Chinook, to gain control of it, without having it pick up its cargo.

Correct tactical usage of this ability could win you a game, keep practising.

Release 6 update:

  • Reduced shroud clearance. Not so effective as a scout now.
  • Reduced loading\unloading delay to 1s (was 2s).
  • Increased take off\landing speed to 9 (was 6). Both these changes are designed to make Chinook transport use more responsive, it should be a more reasonable alternative to the APC now.
