About the Mod
Simply put Red-Resurrection is a light hearted, fun expansion modification for Yuri's Revenged following in the games footsteps with some goofy units, unrealistic game world and overall jolly colourful demeanour. If you are looking for fast paced explosive gameplay set in an apocalyptic wasteland dominated by sadistic super-computers and corrupt insidious inter-continental empires then this is probably not the mod for you. It is simple- there are two factions, the blue Allies fighting for justice, liberty and a free market and the red Soviet Union forging an evil scheme to bring down capitalism forever in a horde of conscripted infantry, tank battalions and nuclear warheads.
What Does Beta Mean?
Yes, as you noticed this is a multiplayer beta. Beta means the mod is essentially incomplete, with some minor details missing or unfinished such as unit voices. Since last october I have been in education and no longer have time to develop the mod continually, so I am now releasing it for you all to play, discover incomplete features and balance mistakes and report them to me. When I have time I will definately continue development, expanding the mod with new features including a full campaign for both factions.
Beta means there will be mistakes, some minor missing features etc but I personally believe the mod to be very stable and playable otherwise I would not have released it. Furthermore the Ares version required by the mod is also in beta phase. Note that Ares does not alter your Yuri's Revenge game in any way.
Step 1: Download the rar(s) to any directory you like.
Step 2: Unzip the mod files into your Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge directory (default is C:\Westwood\Red Alert 2\ with the original game discs or C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Red Alert 2\ with The First Decade compilation)
Step 3: To activate the mod correctly launch via the red-res.bat file included in the rar. This will activate Ares (necessary for the new game logics) and launch Yuri's Revenge with the mod. If you do not activate run.bat I cannot guarantee game stability and the mod will not function as expected.
To delete the mod simply remove expandmd98.mix, ecachemd98.mix, ares.mix, ares.dll, ares.dll.inj, syringe.exe and red-res.bat
Recommended Game Settings
There are a few game settings I would recommend. Red-Resurrection has been rebalanced around game speed 4, making it suitable for campaign play. This means game speed 5 may be way too fast to play on. Game speed 4 is recommended even for online play.
Regarding online play I would very much recommend using CnCNet, a service created by C&C fans allowing people to get together and play providing a much stabler and faster connection than the default XWIS service. To play via CNCNet, download it from the website, extract to your YR directory and launch cncnet.exe. When the window pops up hit Settings and change the Executable setting to red-res.bat (you can also type it in), then relaunch and choose LAN/CNCNet ingame to view the lobby!
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
