Greetings Commanders, here is another update! (I wonder if anyone has been reading this. :p)

I got it converted to SHP. It wasn't the best result, but it has the essentials.

The map and mission triggers are already finished. Now there are only a few things left to edit and compile before Fan-Missions 04 and 05 are ready. :D


(1) CSF Strings. I will have to replace the original YR and MO strings in order not to exceed a certain limit that will crash the game :S However, as the MO CSF is safe within a mix file, you will only have to remove/rename this file to revert to original YR/MO strings.

(2) thememd.mix and thememd.ini - RA2's 200Meters, RA2-OPT, RA2-SCO and Motorized music, as well as YR's music will be used for the mission, I had been thinking to use Frank Klepacki's Escape (Rocktronic) or In the Tunnel (Rocktronic) or Ready the Army (RA2), but I have neither permission nor resources to use the former two, and an undisclosed reason not to use the last one.

(3) 3 RA2 sound samples - somehow I couldn't get them to work in the mix file (it seems I have 'modded' MO 2.0psi beyond repair). >.< Well, I will get around that soon.

(4) new snow terrains - they are needed for the Psychic Isolator Crusier pseudo-unit to work. They will be stored in expandmd97.mix (well, come think of it, I can put nearly everything into the mix if I use expandmd99 instead :p ).

(5) playthrough - well, unlike Fan Mission 03 - Jugglenaut which is already difficult even for me (yeah I'm insane), I do not plan to finish this mission. It is meant to be impossible... especially the last part. There are six mind-crushing parts to this, and I generally consider completing the first five to be good enough...

(6) Par time and par messages for each of the five missions - pretty means I have to play all the missions again >.<

No wonder you can't get sounds to work inside the mix files. They shouldn't be there in the fist place. :p
Sounds usually go to the audio.bag file, not the mixes.

BTW, YR still has all RA2 sounds, so i don't see why you'd want to re-add them.

Ah. I apologise. I was meaning speeches from language.mix. >.< Anyway, I am trying to find a solution in PPM. ^^ I hope they have something good.

There is no way you can get them to work only from language.mix, you will need to create your own mix for that, then add them to evamd.ini and they'll work. Such a mod isn't that difficult, if you want I can make the installer.

Ah. I have solved it yesterday by placing the speeches into the langmd.mix file. I could not save the updated mix prevously because I left Final Alert 2 open, which also uses the file for some reason. Updating evamd.ini is not needed as the RA2 speeches are already declared in there.

EDIT: That said, I am going to try your suggestion on different mix file. I reckon the download will be messy if I start replacing every original mix file there is on the directory >.<

You modified langmd.mix?
That's a kind of fail. Never modify original RA2/YR mixes. As I said, you'd have to place them in an additional mix file.

As for evamd.ini, IIRC they truncated many of the RA2 speeches, if not replaced them.
Keep that in mind when a speech isn't working, it could be truncated.
My offer for an installer is still open btw.

Hahas, well, I had to modify thememd.mix too. Does that mean I made a double fail? :p

I do check the evamd.ini for that, but yeah, I'll keep that in mind. ^^

I will consider your offer when I have the mix and files working first. No point having an installer for a broken mission. :p

EDIT: It now works in expandmd99.mix. Hmm, how did I manage to fail the last few times?

The contents are ready, awaiting my compilation and a final test.

Progress Bar:

(1) CSF Strings - done and working. :) Now to proofread my stuff.

(2) RA2 songs in thememd.mix and thememd.ini - done and working. Alternatively, using a mix with all RA2 songs can work too, but it takes too much disk space and stuff.

(3) RA2 speech samples - done and working. :D

(4) new snow terrains - done and working. :D Now I need to find the original creator of the terrains for credit. (Just searching through the archives, that's all ^^)

(5) playthrough - well, Fan Mission 03... check (and it's good - I'm not editing it). Fan Mission 04... check (and fixed a bug). Fan Mission 05... check for the first four out of six stages. :p

(6) Par time and par messages for each of the five missions. Done. Sort of. I'm too lazy to play through the first two missions (especially when I'm thinking of replacing them; they kind of spoil the set.)

(7) Instructions for use. Ahh... That. D:

The second installment will probably be released by 13 August 2012. Just in time, I am starting my new university term on that day. >.<

Ah... wtf... In my haste to upload Aegis Impervious, I forgot to check that the armor multiplier of a certain house should be 1.2 instead of 19. D: It makes your MCV virtually indestrucible...

I will update with the correction soon. Sumimasen. >.<

Hi haxxan,

Did you use XCC launcher to launch Mental Omega? The XCC launcher, when used, will override one of the files (in particular, ra2md.csf - the string file) with the original Mental Omega counterpart.

The only way to have the game read the new file is to close XCC launcher before closing MO (this will prevent the launcher from removing MO files upon exiting the game), backup and insert the files and then launch the game through RA2md.exe.

The instructions to do that are included in the readme file that comes with the download (8 steps under TO INSTALL + 1st step under TO PLAY).

If you do not use XCC launcher, simply re-copy and replace the files to the MO directory (remember to backup the files before doing this, the readme lists the files that will be replaced).

Hope this helps.




On a side note, my activity towards the fan challenges will be slowing as I am moving my resoures, maps and time from MO 2.0psi to 3.0. :D I am keeping my fingers crossed that MO 3.0 would be released before anyone solves Aegis Impervious. ^^

EDIT: OMG. Someone completed Aegis Impervious in 2 hour 40 mins 57 seconds. O.O Okay, I'll uncross my fingers. But still, OMG...

Well, I have to admit that mission is more bugged than I had originally thought, in ways not limited to what you have shown. I have played the mission myself, and found many more errors than I have time to solve.

This mission (along with the first) will be replaced by a similar one in due time, by late-October mid-December hopefully. ^^

EDIT: Change of plans, the new first and second challenges will be merged into one, and another mission will be added. (Well, I did promise Graion I'd do an easier mission, and putting it after Aegis Impervious seems dubious... :shiftee: )

Also rechecked my schedule, it seems that the whole of October and November will be a busy time for me. >.<

Well .......... i have decided to skip operation Jugllenaut (way too hard for someone like me) and i am now stuck on Allied MO Fan Challenge 04 - Distraught Opportunity ............................ can u give me some tips\hints..........................

(p.s: i found the sniper and the polish flag .......... don't know what to do with the Polish flag)

Once I finish new missons and have that work, I will put it in the next update. ^^

Ah, I will be spoiling the game if I give too much hints. :p

Anyway, first you need safe spots where troops are unlikely to find you (sometimes they still will if you attract enough attention). Second, if you ever move away from a safe position, move as quickly as hell and avoid certain types of weapons that will stop you. Observe their formations carefully; there may not be a gap in between for sometime.

You need to be take a good deal of risk whenever you move, hence the mission name. ^^

That Polish flag (wow... Polish flag in Thailand, check it out! :p) is a little hidden bonus and does not affect the game.

Don't expect me to hint at anything for Aegis Impervious. :p
