I've been getting into it recently... and why not? It's free...

So yea, if you haven't heard of BLR then you're a butt head. Cuz this game is probably one if the best FPS games out there............. AND IT'S FREEEEE. Free. No dollar. No Euro. No Pound / Pence. No Japanese currency, You go in Steam, you download it and its yours. BLR is sort of a mix of Halo, Call of Dooty, Planetside, Ghost Recon.... ehhh.... well it's a bit of every FPS. You have a wide range of customization parts for guns, there's a ton of equipment / armors / vanity items. And the gameplay... yea, it's good. Like Skyrim with guns. Don't quote me on that... or do. It has standard FPS game types, like deathmatch, hack dat' shiii, capture the flag..... all while the guns feel great and the look / style / humor of the game makes it unique. It's got a really weird humor. When it seems like it takes itself seriously, it doesn't. Also, great audio quality and soundtrack.

Also, the business model seems pretty reasonable. I haven't put real money into the game, but you can spend a bit to get the equipment you want permanently. Some things are crazy priced... but it has a rent system, where you can use the game currency or your currency to temporarily check out items. Neat. Might be something fantastic to have a tournament in.

Downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. Looks like an okay style I guess, but I am not very happy with f2p most of the time.

Yea, now that I've gotten really deep into it, the F2P model is starting to get really pesky. Natural progression is very difficult, and it sort of feels like paying to get EXP boosts and early access to weapons is necessary. I played hundreds of games to get to level 16 so I could get access to the machete, and all the gold I made in that time was just enough to buy the machete permanently. I also want my armor sets permanently, as well as equipment slots and weapons. That's a lot of gold. The rent system is cheep, but it's frustrating to rent your entire inventory every day. I guess that's the problem with F2P... you don't get the advantages of people who are actually spending money, while spend 2 play is more of a balanced experience...... sometimes. But the game is still fun, considering I spent 10 bucks just to buy bloody stealth equipment so my progression choices didn't seem wasted.

I usually don't mind non-permanent items in such f2p games, but only if they can be made permanent at a relatively cheap cost and stay relevant from then on and forever. Battlefield heroes had a good balance there, for 20$ you could get a nice outfit and some permanent weapons.

But all in all, once the f2p games gets too aggressive in pandering those fickle items really showcase my trouble with the business model. I rather have them build a normal game that locks your upper level at 20 or something instead of adding these fickle p2w items.

Free 2 plays should hold business models more like End of Nations. The progression is fast and balanced, but the only thing you'll be spending money on are cosmetic items.
