Should more space transports be usable on ground maps ?

I ask for a simple reason: We allready have LAATs usable on the ground, and most LAAT models are able to operate in space, yet we never see them there.
Instead, in space, we have the newer transport models, which similarly cannot operate on the ground.

So yeah, what do y'all think, who wants to have the various transport models working in space work on ground maps.

I think even the LAATs are too op as usuable units, no wonder they are not buildable. I would be more happy to see them flying high over the map as the airspeeders, occasionly landing to load/unload, and occasionly attacking as an apache gunship (maybe as an ability with long recharge). Although I have no problem with additional tranports, if they behave the so, and do not influence land battles too much.

I was thinking a switch weapon special ability set up as to tinker with what their weapons are able to target in such a way as to allow switching them from air to air, to ground attack.

Perhaps lower their speed even more, for ground attack, if that is possible with the switch weapon special.

Do they have AA weaponry? I thought they had some defensive lasers and the 2 airtoground rocket launchers which is interpreted as a mass driver in PR. Lowering their speed would seem very uncanon to me and steal their useful transport role.

The LAAT x2 has proton torpedoes and the extra side laser pods. The basic LAAT doesn't have that.

Phoenix Rising, head of mapping. Thanks to everyone who got us to the position below!

I'd just like to point out that LAATs are buildable in Chih's sub-mod, and far from being over powered they add a nice aspect to ground maps, and they tend to take it rather poorly when turbolaser towers or build pad AA are involved.

Troop transports should be what appears from above to land "elite" troops when they are called in. During this landing, the transport should be able to fire it's weapons if possible, I know the Falcon does it but I don't know if it is possible for other generic transports.

At the least other hero transports should do similar; Slave One, Moldy Crow, ect...

So how would non-elite troops get landed ?

They could stay in larger transports maybe with larger groups to represent their grunt/bulk style.

The idea came out like this: elite troops -> stormtroopers -> stromtrooper transports
I think it is a fair compromise, I just feel like EaW is a bad medium for fighters/transports on land, but it could work too. We will just have to see if it ends up in the main mod down the road or as a side mod, it is all in how it is implemented.

It all really depends on how they are implemented.

I think Chih's sub-mod of PR's addition of LAATs to the build list proves they can work.
Yes, they can be VERY powerful, but AA will still take them down rather quickly.

Also, I think people GREATLY overestimate the usefulness of craft like the LAAT which 'fly' but ingame are basically repulsorcraft, because the engines pathfinding for units is so abysmal that often you'll have units getting stuck, that turns larger transports into liabilities sometimes.

If nothing else, they'd make neutral words that much more fun to attack, while not requiring new models.
