Getting a better glimce at how rules.ini works has inspired me. I never play multiplayer, so I figured, why not make my own modifications for my personal use (as in will not distribute). Since It's just for myself, I figured it's okay to do that right? Problem is, I'm not quite sure how. All I want to do is make a few units and structures (soviet psi corps and airfield as an example) usable in skirmish. I don't care if they'd also be made available in campaign missions. I just won't use them in missions if I want to play the regular way.

 

Any and all help will be appreciated. Again, this is for my own private use. I don't intend to distribute it to anyone.

Modifying INI files is probably happening as we speak.

I don't think Speeder's against you modifying the INI files (for personal use) to gain access to campaign-only units through skirmish.

 

Besides that, if you didn't ask and it is for personal use only, how would we ever figure out you did? :p

I figured that. There's some stuff I have gotten to work in skirmish, like the soviet airbase. However, I can't find some things in the file, like the soviet lasher tank prototype (Human Shield), soviet cloning vats, psi corp troopers, etc. I've also tried making the psychic beacon buildable by changing tech level to 10, but that failed (I'm aware it's useless without map triggers).

 

Basically, most of the stuff I want to add is Soviet ;)

Does this mean we can now showcase campaign only units RP, because if its ok with  you, I have a Euro Alliance naval showcase that I'm itching to share.

Those are probably map-created objects.

Same goes to the Super Thor, it is no where to be found. Its energy shield and rocket attacks are so awesome, but I have no idea how to replicate that :sad:

It's a good news that INIs modding is now acceptable. Yeah, it's only for personal use only.

One thing to remember about OpenTopped if the unit inside has a Turret its Muzzle Fire will move all over the unit if the Unit in question has no Turret.

And if it is OpenTopped, how can we send infantry inside it when it can never land to begin with?

It can.  I advise you download Be7aMod's "Aliens Comeback" mod and study the super hind's config.

The lasher tank prototype maybe (though I'd love if a way to use it without a map editor was found), but I'm certain the psicorps trooper, psychic sensor, and soviet coling vats aren't map config. They're from he original RA2, and available in skirmish (psicorps is just the "Yuri" unit, but has own build icon, not sure if that can be done with map config).

They're just modified versions of the skirmish objects, not separate ones.

Yes.

Oh for multiplayer via cncnet(or tunggle or xwis), it will NOT work unless someone else has your customized ini file

Thanks to an idea I had a long time ago (and that's now in KOTH too), it's not useles without triggers.

I take it you have access to the maps, take a look at Peace Treaty, you have to build a Psychic Beacon there, so it's buildable.

I know it's buildable in campaign (as is the psicorp and psychic sensor), but I can't replicate those conditions on a global scale. I did so with the soviet airfield by changing tech level. I did that and more on the beacon and no change. By useless, I mean it can't actually mind control on an unmodded skirmish map.

Imma do a custom map featuring those hidden stuff.
