Original RA2 and Yuri's Revenge sinply portrays Yuri as a classic comic book-style villian that wants to rule the world. End of story. If you read the mission briefings in game in MO, however, it hints to another side of Yuri. It got me thinking. Maybe... Yuri isn't just a madman, but actually a visonary trying to bring a new kind of utopia into vision.

My thought was that Yuri became dissatisfied with the Soviet cause after seeing the blood and mistrust that existed within Stalin's Soviet empire. Eventually, he developed an idea of a new kind of society. While the Soviets seek to use mind control as a means to the end of achieving the communist utopia envisioned by Marx, Yuri thought that mind control should be an end in itself. Humanity has always been fractured. Fruitlessly fighting eachother with selfishness and hatred. Though The Mental Omega Device, Yuri will make humanity one. An entire species linked like a hivemind to the will of a single, benevolent dictator. No more bloodshed. No more negative emotions. Willingly enslaved, but peaceful and as happy as can be. This is Yuri's vision. This is the goal of the Epsilon. Yuri is freedom from war and sorrow.

This would make sense if you think about it. But what does factions say?:

US: FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!! F*** YURI!!!!!!!!!
PF: FREEDOM (insert multiple Asian translations for freedom here)!!!!!!!!!

EU: FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!........SIEGFRIED, WHERE ARE MY CHARONS?!?!?!??!?!??!

RUSSIA: COMMUNISM!!!!!!!!!!! YURI IS A TRAITOR TO MOTHER RUSSIA!!!!!!!!!!!

CHINA: COMMUNISM!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE MAY HATE RUSSIA SOMEWHAT, BUT WE HAVE OUR OWN AGENDAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

LC: FREEDOM FROM THE CAPITALIST PIGS!!!!!!!!!! WE WILL NOT BE OPPRESSED BY YURI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yuri: And this why I want to take over the world.

"I had normal life, till the day our thoughts got clouded in a dark shroud. My home was destroyed, then they found me, or rather, I found them.

I always saw Yuri as a Big Brother figure like in George Orwell's 1984. It figures to me that Yuri is trying to establish the perfect Ingsoc society through mind control. That's the way I see it.

Actually Yngwie of Haus Malmsteen, feefty eenches of pure Svwedish beef.

Well, as i consider that there are no real 'good' factions in war, the answer can be both.

Nah, Westwood just couldn't make a decent villain after they had made Stalin the big baddie in RA1, so they came out with Lenin+Rasputin+Saturday-night-cartoon-villain combo.

Therefore, I think he just want to take over the world. At least, that was how Westwood made him.

If MO team manages to make him sympathetic in some way, it will be glorious.

But seriously, every faction in MO are FUBAR in many aspects.

ALLIED

US - "@#$%! Our country got invaded. My allies. Help US."

PF and EU - "Welp. US is dead. Let's strip US apart before Soviet get them."

US - "WTF!!"

SOVIET

Russia - "We're back. Communism shall rule this world. Everybody follow me!!"

Latin Con. - "Viva la revolution."

China - Whispering secretly 'Screw you, Russia.'

YURI

<Assembling required, so working for the Soviet is necessary.>

Russia - "You have been a great asset to us, Yuri. By the way, what are you doing in Africa?"

Latin Con. - "Viva la revolution."

China - "Your guys are @#$%ing us over."

<Pending for world domination and pwning the Allied in Act 2>

Every faction can be seen as just or evil. Both the Soviet and Epsilon campaigns describe America is an imperialist evil empire (not a far cry from the real USSR's opinion). And America sees PF and Europe as deceitful and bad excuses for allies. I do see how Yuri can be a "Big Brother" type dicator, only there would be no need for policing everyone because he already controls what everyone thinks remotely.
