Original RA2 and Yuri's Revenge sinply portrays Yuri as a classic comic book-style villian that wants to rule the world. End of story. If you read the mission briefings in game in MO, however, it hints to another side of Yuri. It got me thinking. Maybe... Yuri isn't just a madman, but actually a visonary trying to bring a new kind of utopia into vision.
My thought was that Yuri became dissatisfied with the Soviet cause after seeing the blood and mistrust that existed within Stalin's Soviet empire. Eventually, he developed an idea of a new kind of society. While the Soviets seek to use mind control as a means to the end of achieving the communist utopia envisioned by Marx, Yuri thought that mind control should be an end in itself. Humanity has always been fractured. Fruitlessly fighting eachother with selfishness and hatred. Though The Mental Omega Device, Yuri will make humanity one. An entire species linked like a hivemind to the will of a single, benevolent dictator. No more bloodshed. No more negative emotions. Willingly enslaved, but peaceful and as happy as can be. This is Yuri's vision. This is the goal of the Epsilon. Yuri is freedom from war and sorrow.
