I don't think you understand how welfare works in the US. There are many people trying to game the system. I know firsthand just from my roommate and his family who are on welfare. Also people will choose not to get married in circumstances where the can collect more money if they both classify themselves as single parents. Also yes that is how the economy works, if you pay laborers more then either profit gets cut into (which good luck convincing business execs/shareholders to accept that) or the price of the product go up. Those who can produce the product for cheaper will undercut the market thus putting those who charge higher prices for similar products to go out of business.

Edit: Some welfare packages easily go over 40K which is a huge amount a lot more than people can make at other jobs and easy to live on. That's about equivalent to $21/hr untaxed.

Higher minimum wage = more spending power = more people buying products.

You could argue that a higher minimum wage would result in people getting fired, but there is mounting evidence that this is not the case. This is an interesting article on the subject. It seems the general public accepts minor price increases if this means the workers are able to make a decent living.

Still I think you are missing my point, it wont make sense for the Exec's to pay their employees more if they can produce the product elsewhere for much cheaper such as they already do. Before any change happens in the US min wage it needs to happen elsewhere first else all the jobs will just continue to move offshores.

Edit: Also good article I found it to be very informational.

Your point is a fallacy; the US has long since outsourced the brunt of its manufacturing industry. Chinese labor has been a lot cheaper for a long time; even the current abysmal US minimum wage is way more expensive than what these overseas laborers are getting paid. The deed is done, the US is no longer primarily manufacturing-based economy (and hasn't been for a long time); it's now largely service based.

Outsourcing service work is pretty much impossible; most services cannot be effectively performed by Chinese dudes half a world away. An increased minimum wage simply isn't to blame for the outsourcing of the manufacturing industry. Blame trade agreements like NAFTA instead.

An interesting article on the US service economy: http://www.forbes.co...-u-s-workforce/

I never disagreed with that those with money control the majority of the workings of America?
