Here is my latest test build for my new rig i plan on getting soon. I am trying a lot of combinations of parts and might start to post more these days since the summer is winding down meaning so is my irl job.

The goal: Get the best PC for Professional and Gaming as well as video rendering etc.

I want to be able to render videos efficiently and fast as well as get high frame rates on games. I need good screens for color coordination through my website design work. I want the PC to look good to, so i am not going to sacrifice for a bad case or a bad looking motherboard.

My budget? Just under 2000 bucks INCLUDING TAX. This build goes over it by a hundred But i think this is a good solid build.

I will be taking my SSD from my current build and be bringing it to this one and will then but the 2 1tb hard drives into raid 0.

--

Things i wish for: An aftermarket heatsink and led lighting, if i were to sacrifice the current case for a different case i dont know what to go with and am open for suggestions I like the look of the NZXT H440 and if i went with that it would be i dont need an optical drive thus overall saving money.

--

Extras: Lighting, if it can be helped i would love to have the case match the lighting color and because of my motherboard choice which has red LEDS in the board i think a black and red theme would be a good thing to go with, i would however prefer to go with a white type build but those kinds of parts are hard to come by.

------

This was kind of written in a weird perspective and if anyone has insight on how to go about getting the best pc with at least these requirements below i am all ears to a top notch build:

1ms refresh rate monitors that have 144hz (2x monitors)

High end graphics card for video editing and rendering.

High end CPU for CPU intense games

Better then standard 1600 ram for video rendering help and other things like photoshop and the multitude of programs i keep open

Lighting fixtures that make it look good.

Good aftermarket heatsink

Quiet build that runs smoothly and efficiently with great cable management would be awesome.

I know its basically impossible to get all of these things for a 2000 buck budget but i am sure some of you (kwen most likely) will have some great insight to this build. I want something that isnt just game oriented but is a top notch workstation, thats why i would prefer white LED's instead of red etc.

Thanks,

Elric

Yea, your rig will do well.  I built mine from older tech 2 years ago, using a last generation processor and GC.  And I still have yet to find a game I can't run in full graphics.  But I do have issues filming certain higher-end stuff, with FR drops.  But you have much more modern stuff planned.  So I highly doubt there will be an issue.

And I have yet to find a good reason to get cosmetic lighting.  If you're in college, it's just going to bug your roommate at night.  Or even you.  And it's an extra drain on power.

The first thing I notice is that you selected a Maximus VI Hero. I think you will run into a bunch of issues using that board with the new 4790K, because it is Devil's Canyon, and even though it is still Haswell, there have been numerous reports of the Z87 boards not taking well to the chips and even failing to post without BIOS updates, and if you cannot get it to post updating the BIOS is very annoying, I see no reason you cannot bump to a Maximus VII Hero. The extra $30 or so more will be worth it to save you headache, plus the Z97 boards will have Broadwell support also.

one place you could compensate slightly for the cost of that, would be in the PSU. Unless you plan to do some intense over-volting and/or SLI configurations you do not need 1000 watts for a single 780, bump that down to a 750 watt and save yourself $50.

As for the monitors, I suggest for video rendering and color accuracy you only get one VG248QE, and have your second screen be a sweet IPS panel, hell even a 1440p panel, which will give you much much better visual fidelity. The reason I say this is because with two screens obviously you wouldn't be doing multi-monitor gaming, since that requires a minimum of three. Why would you need a 144hz, 1ms response time TN panel as your second screen? Waste of money and lost potential for what you are aiming for. But, that there is down to your preference.

For lighting, you could use LED strips, or what I am doing is using Cold Cathode bars, these ones specifically:

http://www.frozencpu...6c75s1557#blank

These are nice because I can conceal them away behind things and they give off a nice glow without being seriously bright and obnoxious, also, they have a switch that slides into one of the PCIe slots on the case (not the motherboard) so you can turn the lights on and off from the rear of the case without having to open it up.

Here you can find all sorts of options for lighting accessories:

Trying to keep under a $2000 budget with a 4790k, 780, and two monitors is going to be extremely difficult. I noticed you did not allocate for a case or the CPU cooler in the list. For the cooler I really think it would serve you well to use an all-in-one liquid cooler, than way when you are rendering videos and such you can ramp up the CPU performance and still keep it nice and cool and of course whisper quiet.

The case really just comes down to your budget and preference.

There aren't a lot of options I can suggest to shave pennies aside from the classic "go AMD" route, but of course you know by now doing Intel/Nvidia will net you better performance though only marginally, at an increased price.

After some thought and taking what you said into consideration about the power management Kwen I redid the build slightly:

http://pcpartpicker....e5/saved/J3xfrH

add an extra 10 for the red light strips.

I choose BenQ because i do more console gaming then PC gaming so the 1ms is a must on both monitors because i would have a console hooked up to both. I prefer having the same brand monitor as well as knowing its a good gaming monitor (they use them in MLG) they are a hundred bucks cheaper thus making the entire build roughly where i need it to be. I forgot to add the case so i am sorry about that, should be OK now. I picked the 750D to house it all.

I think the setup will look great and should be up to date for years especially if Z97 will support broadwell.

Is this a solid final build?

Indeed it is! Very nice looking setup.

As for the CPU cooler, I recommend the H100 or H110 series.

It would set you right snugly at your $2000 mark. If you do not wish to use all-in-one liquid to cool the beastly 4790k, there are some good air options, just note that they won't net you the same level of performance out of the CPU.

This one is generic, but does the trick in a pinch.

Or something with a bit more oomph and good looks, performance, and noise level.

I will go with the water cooling as your suggested however i have one quest BEFORE i do that. Can you reuse the heatsink? For example next year i will probably throw a high end broadwell at it and i would hate to see it only used for a year and then go to a waste.

I will probably be purchasing this once my desktop sells and i get paid for my summer work. So, basically and hopefully within a month.

I appreciate the help Kwen! Always nice to have another persons input on something that requires this much money.

Of course you can re-use the heatsink, just detach it and clean off the old thermal compound, then seat the new processor, apply new thermal compound, and re-attach the heatsink for the cooler. No issues! Broadwell will still be 1150 socket so it's guaranteed to work with it.

Glad I can help! It also makes me feel good to see other people interested in such things, for me it has almost become an obsession.

Of course! I see exactly what you mean. Now i have to be the pest. I would love to make another build but a more budget limited build revolving around the same aspects. If my desktop doesnt sell with both monitors for 800 then i CANT do this build however i COULD do a build close to it with a budget of 1600. Perhaps downgrade the graphics card to a 770 and take out the 16gb of ram and go with 8gb?

Recommendations are always nice :p

EDIT:

Another option is to wait for the new mac mini to come out and just get that fully speced and buy 2 nice monitors to accompany it.

Here is the final build, the screenshot with both screens and the PC doesn't have the graphics card or red led fan inside. The other shot does.

Went with a 4gb gtx 770 and 2 ips displays
