Hi there!

Can't find anything about this via search, but it must be possible since I've seen some mods do it (RJ RotWK for example has an orange'ish font fitting to the brown/red tone of the menu).

I want to change the font color in the RotWK menu to the color of the BFME2 menu (I'm working on a BFME2 menu mod). I've tried looking at the files of the RJ mod but it's just too much to check for actual changes. I'm seeing a lot of updated .const files in there, though.

So, how do I do it? Changing .const or .apt files? Some .ini file I overlooked within all the OkToChangeModelColors? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks,

Morten

Hi withmorten,

its easier with an apttool, but you can change the color with a hexeditor too.
The colorentries are in the constfile, so you have to search for some hexvalues and their meanings.

Example:

colorSubTextDark
0x57842B

But cause thats a bad methode you should download an apteditor.

Now you have more possibilities to edit the colors and a lot of other stuff and the hexvalues are there too.

Nice to know you're still active, I was browsing through that pinned apt editing thread yesterday and downloaded your tools - but I'll try that one, then.

Thanks for your help! I'll work on this in the next couple of days (replacing all the WK textures with the ones from B4ME2 is a pain).

Edit 1: I've been trying around a bit (I've used your .const perl script to convert .const files to xml and back), finding those color entries in some files (namely CaApperance and Class because I did those textures already), but changes won't register (I replaced the RotWK color hex codes the corresponding ones from B4ME2) - even if I replace the updated .const file in the corresponding .big file. Do you know what exactly I need to do?

Here's two screenshots of my progress:

Bump, I still haven't found an answer to this (do tell me if this is against the etiquette or anything).

So you replaced the actual files in the original game and the changes don't happen? :O

Yes. It's really strange. I was thinking maybe I need to change all of them because they all reference each other and notice something's wrong, or need to change one master file, but I didn't want to put hours into finding each mention of subTextDark etc only to find out nothing works :(

I'll put up a detailed list of what I did with some screenshots in a couple of minutes. Maybe that helps tracking the problem down.

Step 1: Completely extraced apt files: http://puu.sh/bSVhH/50ae2c9da0.png

Step 2: Copy those into the apt editor directory so I have a better ovierwiew, and convert them: http://puu.sh/bSVFw/ea179667b1.png

Step 3: Find the color mentions and replace the RotWK colors with those from BFME2: http://puu.sh/bSW8D/cd9ff01d13.png

Step 4: Convert the files back to apt and const: http://puu.sh/bSWfn/b547a77584.png

Step 5: Either put them in a new big file or replace them within the original apt big files (using finalbig 0.4 for this): http://puu.sh/bSWGh/5a0a7d1624.png

Step 6: Which I then put into my RotWK folder: http://puu.sh/bSWMr/ba72b63343.png

And now let's see if this works ...

Edit 2: Nope, doesn't work. Am I replacing the wrong values? Btw, does anybody here know of a commandline big writer? I don't want to keep adding single files by hand and changing their directory.

Basically, all of them. I'm tryiing to make the RotWK menu look as much as possible like the BFME2 menu. But like I said, I wanted to start small with the apt editing just to check if it works at all.

The behavior of the buttons in RotWK is also different when you hover over them, in BFME1 and 2 they sort of invert, in RotWK it just gets a glowy effect, but that's all for later. First I want to be able to change the font colours by mself :p

So i have to explain, the CaH menus use a other methode for fontcolor. With the constantpool you can change the color of every other menu.

Ah, so how do I change the CaH colors then?

Of course the sample I chose to test on is the one that works different from all the other menus ...
