so here is a little review of a tablet PC for those wanting to go that route

the Pc is the thinkpad 128gb 4gb Ram with 3g

so I got spoiled with touch screen devices and I wanted my next device to be a tablet Pc rather than a high end desktop with a Titan graphics card and 4K screen

i needed mobile internet, as much ram and storage there was as well as a Wacom stylus

this thinkpad 10 was the answer, the only answer.

here is how it compares to the competition

Surface pros -no 3g ,has fan

dell venue-preferred Wacom stylus vs ntrig

HP elite pad-again stylus was the only difference -synaptic does NOT have hover feature

but all the accessories are nice

fujitsu q584-too expensive

went with atom  based tablet as broadwell is still too new ,haswell requires fan

overall the quality is nice with accessories like a dock and optional keyboard

it may not be as powerfull as a Surface Pro but has good battery life and is fanless

As the tablet is non upgradeable you should get the highest specs ,just be patient and save

this is not a bash on the other companies but this one comes closest to having all the right specs

the atom quad core z3795 is quite a capable processor

the ipad still have a place as the pages, mail, safari apps are spot on and zippy

pages IOS is the perfect app for a fast report

and you email out and save to pdf easily

so I might be the guy who rocks a tablet and a tablet PC

This tablet I have much better gaming experience ,I get my movies easier and transfer files better

the mobility aspect is great...I never was a fan of laptops but loved tablets

gaming wize it plays BFME 2 on ultra-high

i would have wished for more storage but will get used to the small capacity

battery life so far is quite good ,again the ipad is better by far

Well, if this is supposed to be a competitor to the common stationary, static PC... I'm still not quite convinced, even by the Thinkpad 10.  I would love for my bulky desktop to be more of a gopher and less of a gurthy calf, but at no sacrifice to performance or function.  While this tablet seems like one of the better solutions, it is still not a solution for folks like myself.  You can play BFME 2 on ultra, but that's hardly a performance test.  Can I play Metro Last Light on ultra?  Will I have the ability to use Ethernet?  Will I have 6 USB ports, 2 HD monitor ports, 2 HDMI ports?  Will it have the same gig as my PC hard drive?  A staggering doubt for most of those questions, I suspect.  I'm afraid my ideal tablet won't exist for quite awhile.

And why not bash other companies?  They sound terrible.

true...with mobile pc you have alot of sacrifices .I dont use my desktop for much and can get by with one USB ,hell the ipad doesnt even have that. The work I do is lab work with the need to write reports and respond to emails. And for leasure its watching movies ,anime or light gaming.

so being desk bound is not to my liking ,and now may never be.

for heavy gaming the usual large screen Tv with console is my preffered choice.

A good comparison :if you can install your much used programs on a desktop and only use 100gb of space, with a 2gb memory stick

onboard graphics ,a dual core Amd processor ....and this can handle what essential needs you have for one month, then this tablet would suffice ..just suffice .

They seemed to have the right balance between medium specs and battery life... the latter is a major concern with mobile devices.

TBH I was shocked it could handle BFME as some of my older desktops onboard graphics couldn't.

I'll throw a few emulators at it and post result.I was never much into benchmark numbers.
these days I am not interested in much PC games or even console games.

but if i need to download a movie torrent and watch it on the same device while lounging ...then this Tablet is my only option

It sounds like the PC tablet is still a bit too early for marketing.  Maybe another ten years will make them more worth the silver dollars they're worth.  When we have TVs and monitors with wireless imputs/outputs, Tablets can have larger screen support without the need for bulky ports.  And of course, the obvious compression of advanced hardware components.  I would like to see an NVIDIA Titian able to fit into one of these tablets one day.

So a bit of a letdown...

Battery life is 4-5hours ,they claimed 9-10hours, that's light use doing things  the ipad could do which would last 9 hours

It lags browsing the web

I'm not liking it ...

Maybe just maybe win 10 will be better

What it can do that the ipad can't is download torrents and have USB support

Word is a pain to use ....its not at all optimsed for touch

And why does the landscape keyboard need to be so big.

The 3g tends to drop and needs to be reconnected manually .

The pen works great

The screen looks really sharp

It plays video well with loud speaker sound

Don't try to install tons of programs as it fills up really fast with two user accounts (work + personal)

So my plan of action :

Save $$$$

Buy new iPad air 2(I have accessories and tons of apps)

Buy HP elitepad 1000 G2 with battery case option or see what the Surface Pro 4 brings

Maybe Apple OSX will come to this hardware platform with switching to IOS apps ...that's a dream .

Probably give my brother this PC ,he got my old iPad ...he gets the hand me downs..

I haven't given up on windows just yet .... but they need to OPTOMIZE their software

We need metro stock apps for word processing and a better browsing experience

The lag in loading was from chrome ..IE lagged less ... will try Firefox

So this is a try ... not a buy.

The HP would double the battery life and have SDXC card support ,in addition to micro SD and micro Sim

The hardware is top notch . But the software is not ...

I'm not giving up on Tablet PC just yet .    ..... maybe Surface Pro 4 will be fanless with 3g support

But still "the best" right now as far as hardware

Here is the pros and cons

PROS

Great screen :IPS ,1080 HD

Wacom digitizer ,no battery needed ,pressure sensitivity, hover feature

Host of keyboard and dock accessories

A Full size USB

mini hdmi out (dont care )

Full windows 8.1 pro out of the box

Fingerprint reader (so what really)

128gb hard drive

Its no gaming PC but at least the weaker games beat any app store games

CONS

battery life is 5 hours (will test to be sure)

Software cons

1. Windows store is weak ,no office metro style -the ipad already got metro office ,what gives?

2.Can blue screen a.This can be scary as it went into a constant loop of restart and blue screen

Luckily Lenovo backup worked and reinstalled the software ,Really ,two days and multiple blue screens with full restore needed.

3.landscape keyboard blocks half the screen ,really why So BIG ???

What it needs and may get eventually

Office for touch

A bluescreen-less windows .one that goes back to a default setup instead of CRASHING

A Faster browser ....one based on tablets like Safari IOS .trying to load every popup causes the lag

PDF export native to all word processing productivity apps

The cons are mostly windows-based as even the power consumption could be optimized.

In theory its 10 times more powerful than the ipad with faster file transfer

It needs to a battery management software that chooses which programs to suspend and which to run in background

And a DATA 3g management program to show which programs use 3g and the ability to disable if desired

For now airplane mode is the best option.

In short this and the ipad mini with 3g should have you mobile for work .

Then use the mini to hotspot internet if needed.

But wait for the next ipad mini 3, as it will have  WiFi 802.11AC

One is a sexy experienced  marathon runner who is weak but goes the distance

The other is a 100 meter sprinter with power but is new to the sport .

Other :installed a N64 emulator .runs nicely

So it sounds like a portable Nintendo emulator now.  With a battery life of a fly.  Still better than the Wii.

Good gawd... what an eye bleeding metaphor.  I might get the point, regardless.

Battery life is average 5 hours normal use

I'm slowly getting to like it

The pen input is smooth .I recommend wacom ,and there are not that many wacom based tablets ....strangely

So Lenovo or Fujitsu ....but Fujitsu is same hardware but twice the cost and harder to get support.

Get these apps to make it useful

Papyrus

Note s

PDF creator pro

Files and folders pro

V browser

Tube downloader

Press play video

Immersive browser

Metamoji note premium

Google

I will add more as the list grows

I prefer win 8 metro apps to desktop apps as the controls are easier to manipulate.

The overall selection is spare e.g. IOS may have 40 apps doing exactly the same thing ,metro 8 has 4

But this will eventually improve

So overall this is a good to great device .Not exceptional or worry free but for my needs just fine .

I could live with the 5 hours ...was hoping for the advertised 10 hours

I have 30gb free after installing these and other apps

I have 3 full accounts . Home ,work ,and a guest1 child account for anyone wanting to borrow

I have two separate Dropbox accounts

A few disk images

This free space will more than be enough for the occasional movie torrent download

I suggest getting the touchcase folio rather that the keyboard

The WiFi and 3g is good enough ,,just don't rush to install new updates for this module ...if the current one works leave it .

I had to reinstall a previous version driver due to dropouts

A shame it does not connect to portable hard drives but there are 128gb flashdrives available

I have an ultra-fit flash drive from SanDisk which is meet and does not stick out

I am now not using an ipad at all ,not even missing it ,only missing Pages ,Safari and Mail , IOS stock apps are more polished

But with win 10 coming out it may improve

So definitely a buy ...but get the highest specs possible with 3g and stylus as there is no upgrading after.

Check Lenovo psref PDF document

Its $1000 USD on amazon ,

Add a folio touchcase ,ultra-fit USB, extra charger,128gb SD card for max usage

There is even a mini WiFi dongle for 802.11ac from edimax a.will get and test.

Its very professional looking .

I will miss the iPad ,I am now hungry for win 8 tablets .
