Guest posting has benefits as well.
- More accessible and open forums
- Guests can try before they register (why waste an account at a place you don't like?)
- Guest posts give you a taste, but to get the full benefits you have to register.
- I sometimes like to post without having to log in (mostly public computers)
Negatives:
- Spam and advertisement (can help with visual confirmation mod)
- People forget to log in

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Negatives:

-You get losers who decide to n00b up projects...

-It makes banning absolutely pointless.

Dude, points 2 and 3 are THE SAME.

SIX BOXES.

That's ALL you have to fill in to register, folks. Jesus. Is it THAT difficult to think of a username, a password, and give an email address?

I have NEVER had a problem with guest VIEWING. I'd say that's pretty open these days. If the question you wanted answering isn't there (which is unlikely, since chances are you found this place by google, or by someone directing you here), you can always fill those six bloody boxes in and get the FULL deal.

Who wants the limited free trial when you can get UNlimited free trial? It's absolutely nonsensical.

And if you're THAT bothered about logging in on public computers, LOG BACK OUT WHEN YOU'RE DONE :umad: I log on at college every time. I don't even BOTHER to log out.

But hey. Why am I banging my head against this brick wall?

The only ones who guest post here are spammers, n00bs, people who forget to login, and the odd (and I mean very rare exception) genuine member, who'll go on to register.

For every one of those members, I estimate at least 20 are the other three.

If it's a 1 in 20, then why don't we see the place overrun by spam? At any time there are probably about as many guests viewing the board as members, if not more.

Bear in mind that not all the guests post. Many just view. Which I don't think anyone has ever had a qualm with.

Hell, half of them probably stumbled across Revora by complete accident, and just closed the window. They prolly saw Ali's face.

Well for one, I don't want the entire internet to know my email (I'm flooted by Portugese spam already because I registered and deregistered ONCE on a some Portugese forum (at least that's where it must be from since I don't speak a word Portuguese). I don't want to get spammed all over, or my address filled in at all other places by some forum member or something.

And Speeder has a point.

Well at least he has people interested, my forums only contain posts by two people..
Why don't you disable guest post in Speeders forum and leave the rest open?
Keep in mind though Speeder, you might lose a couple of fans there then.

EDIT BTW I created this friggin email for the spam some time ago .

I have an account on PPM, (registered only so a could view a certain thread), I view some things occasionally, but I have never posted anything. Aren't such accounts just cluttering up the database?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Wait, isn't PPM run by the man behind the Great Crusade Against Against Guest Posting, the Banshmeister...?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Revora is ran in a different way and different purposes than PPM.

PPM has few forums where you need to register to view posts. Mainly the research ones and one or other exception.

T3A is low on spam cause we have active moderators who train the new people right from the word go. I have members asking to remove the spam central forum cause they want it to be spam free. Even I spam sometime and will keep that. We just have a disciplined forums and it's working fine for us.

When people come there, they know it's not a childs forum and many respect that. That's why it's so active and yet low on spam. We have our spammers but they get trained after alittle private coaching.

Many people don't register cause they are testing the waters. Eventually either they dissapper or they register, that's all I ask. Than there are some like Dispraiser who wanted to post and had registered but I had to fix his account.

If we didn't have guest posting, he'd never even bothered to come here again. He's happy, I'm happy, we're all happy with guest posting at T3A and Revora.

Um, no. We clearly are NOT all happy with guestposting at Revora, or else this thread wouldn't even exist.

As said, T3A is the exception to the rule. Check the RA2 editing and mod boards. Most of the guests there post shit like:
Thread title: PLZ HELP IMPRTNT Q!1111one
"hwo od 1 ad utins 2 ra2?"

Or they revive old threads. Or they n00b up the modding boards. I've been using MO as a chief example, as it seems to see the worst of it. VERY rare a guest posts anything useful or constructive. Regardless of how we want to train them, we are disinclined to do so if all of them are posting using all the linguistic skills of an amoeba, or can't even be bothered to check the stickies or tutorials. I believe MG is fed up of saying: READ THE TUTORIALS.

I grant you, it's not JUST guests, but they seem to do it regularly enough, and they can just get away with it scot-free.

Banshee, why do you think that PPM's methods will work here? Then again...if you're such a proponent of guests, why the hell do you have boards that aren't even guest-viewable? I've never had a problem with guests viewing threads. Nobody has. But I don't want to see "hwo od I ad utins?!!!!!!! HLEP EM!!".

Why do you people come up with guest viewing when we are arguing about guest posting? This is mainly to Mastermind and Blaat. Guests can view everything in my book but if they want to post they should REGISTER. Its obvious.
Would you want to talk to a man with a bag on his head? I dont think so.

Basically their try-before-you-buy is the guest viewing. By viewing they can determine by their own rules whether we are total pricks or nice guys who are worthy of experiencing the new guys presence. If he wants to post he shall register ITS JUST 3 FUCKING MINUTES TO DO IT, we aint gonna rape his mother after he registers or anything like that.

So if someone doesnt have those 3 damned minutes to register then he wont be interested in revora enough to stay on it most probably. Therefore his post is redundant to the community. Besides it helps keep the noobs in check

ARGUMENT FROM CREATION, a.k.a. ARGUMENT FROM PERSONAL INCREDULITY (I)
(1) If evolution is false, then creationism is true, and therefore God exists.
(2) Evolution can't be true, since I lack the mental capacity to understand it; moreover, to accept its truth would cause me to be uncomfortable.
(3) Therefore, God exists.
