The other natural tendency is that many guests troll the forums, and you cant do jackshit about it except ban some ips. Which is stupid since some users use proxies so many users have the same ip, therefore youre banning potential users already. Whereas if guest posting was disabled the account could just be banned and before that the offender could be warned by pm. Can you pm a guest? I think not.

ARGUMENT FROM CREATION, a.k.a. ARGUMENT FROM PERSONAL INCREDULITY (I)
(1) If evolution is false, then creationism is true, and therefore God exists.
(2) Evolution can't be true, since I lack the mental capacity to understand it; moreover, to accept its truth would cause me to be uncomfortable.
(3) Therefore, God exists.

Then he should have said 'common collective view of network leaders'. Saying 'common collective view' implies that everyone agrees with you.

Which, clearly, we don't.

Oh, fuck it. I might just lock this after Blodo and I have posted. It's a waste of time trying to talk about this...

Seems to be the way it works. Leaders wait patiently for us all to KO ourselves BANGING OUR HEADS AGAINST THE BRICK WALL, and then carry on as ever.

That said, wasn't this thread to determine the PUBLIC OPINION!? The only people who'll have voted yes to all:

D
Banshee
MM
Blaat
Hostile
possibly Immo
possibly Fen.

Of these, only one can specifically be called 'public' (Fen). No others can. Neither, really, can I. But I had to try and balance the vote.

This thread was purposeless from the start due to nobody even paying a blind bit of notice bar the usual resounding NO.

There are many registered members that are as much as problematic or more problematic than the majority of the guests. Guest posting allows a higher activity in the forums and makes the community grow faster. The guest knows that if he doesn't register, his 'ID' can be hijacked by anyone. So, the natural tendency is that guests register.

Yes same here I agree to that to we do have to many registered members that they register and never some up again like what is the point.

Then why not just make 'em register in the first place? That way, their ID can never be hijacked...nor can year-old threads be n00bed up.

Granted, there are a number of registered members I'd like to give a darn good kicking, too, but that's a separate issue.

The world isn't made of 'Ash's. People are different and we never know why a person will just want to post as a guest instead of registering.

I'd like to know where some of you get these apocaliptical statistics of guest posting, lol... I've seen so many guests posts that had nothing wrong on it... and of course some of their posts were very n00bish and even some spam.

Banshee, I will say no more on the matter so long as you agree to this:

Anything n00bish/spammy/trolly posted by either guest or member can be instantly and unequivocally locked and/or deleted without dispute from you, MM or Tom.

If agreed, then I can be sure of being able to do stuff without being instantly tossed to the rabid wolves...

So long as you distinguish n00bish from newbish, and have a fairly high threshhold for what is spam and trolling, that should be fine. Essentially, if in doubt, just report it. That way you don't have to take the heat if we disagree.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

But that would mean every post that was slightly objectionable got reported.

Besides. Check my rank. Doesn't that imply I should have some authority to make the odd decision regarding moderating myself? Or must I be a subservient robot?

Hmm, it seems to be a lack of communcation and bonding here, but I do agree with you CJ and MM because if I was a staff I would like to be notified on what I can do here that is let by you MM or any of the leaders, but yes CJ I do see your point that staff do get to moderator the topics and post and should be allowed to close them and remove them if they don't follow the forum rules.

Lurker, you have never BEEN staff here. You have no clue how it works. You therefore have no right to any degree of input on the matter.

As a matter of fact, I've been moderating YOU more than anyone else. Today ALONE I've deleted at least 5 spam posts by you. Please stop sticking your nose in where it isn't of any productive value.

I voted 'Guest posting on in some forums.' We (hostees, staff, admins) should have the ability to disable guest posting for a forum (or at least ask for it and get it done!) if guests are proving to be a problem.

Just because Lurker does have a point doesn't mean you have to flame him. Lack of communication, I'm afraid, IS a problem here. One standard for the whole forum, stated clearly in public view. And global guest posting should not be in it.

I know lack of communication is a problem, Immo...the point is, he has never even seen the Staff forum, nor been part of the staffing process. If he'd not seen this thread, he'd never have known there was a communication issue. Therefore, how can he constructively comment on it?

He's basically posting here, presumably, on the basis of getting his postcount up...I am trying to be patient with him, but he's trying my patience atm. I don't mind a bit of social posting, but with him, it's every thread he sees he posts in...and what he posts is, when relevant, usually just an agreement or something that doesn't really contribute to the thread, the forum, or anything else.

Someone link to the vid on Ebaumsworld. I can't access that site from college.

How your forum runs is different than how this forum is run, Lurker. You don't know how this forum is run, as you're not part of the process. You aren't in the loop.

I know you're just asking questions, but please don't invade a discussion that you really have no valid input in...if you have a suggestion for Rev, there's no need to post it in this thread. Where there is indeed a comms problem, the problem doesn't reach ground-level. It's between Staff and Admins where the problem really exists. That's the only reason I deleted your posts here. Is your input wasn't needed or useful (since the problem isn't yours), and just repeated what had been said before, with no real contribution.

See my point now?
