failed to join- the game is a different version

Best Answer d0peZmokA, 14 February 2018 - 01:08 AM

Ok.. I found the fix. The game is running perfectly online.

My solution:

  • As previously mentioned, when running Zero Hour, open using Administrator Mode .
  • Navigate to the C:\Users\{your_username}\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\ directory.
  • Then delete the general.lcf file.
  • Open the options.ini file delete the contents and paste in a new version here:

AntiAliasing = 1

BuildingOcclusion = yes
CampaignDifficulty = 1
DrawScrollAnchor = yes
DynamicLOD = no
ExtraAnimations = yes
Gamma = 50
HeatEffects = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = high
LanguageFilter = true
MaxParticleCount = 5000
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 800 600
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
SawTOS = yes
ScrollFactor = 145
SendDelay = no
ShowSof****erEdge = yes
ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes
ShowTrees = yes
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TextureReduction = 0
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseCloudMap = no
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
UseLightMap = yes
UseShadowDecals = yes
UseShadowVolumes = no
VoiceVolume = 70

Many thanks for all your help.. if I can help anyone in the future, just contact me :)

Maybe see you in game :)

Which game is affected by this and are you using Origin or Steam?

We'd need more details...

Hi. Seeing as there has been no response to this, could I hijack this thread?

I am running the 'Origin' version of Zero Hour and Windows 10.

I have a dual monitor setup up (2x 27inch - resolution: 1920x1080).

Prior to the GenTools install, Zero Hour (Solo Play) was running at 1920x1080 and full screen. The camera height was adjusted, so the game was nicely playable.

I have just installed GenTools, and have connected to C&C online for the first time.

I have 2 issues.

1) When attempting to connect to a game, I get the following error: 'Failed to join - the game version is different.' a screenshot of that can be seen at https://www.dropbox.....35.12.png?dl=0.

2) when I host a game and play with an "AI" opponent, the game screen is almost unplayable. Screenshots can be seen here: https://www.dropbox.....35.47.png?dl=0 & https://www.dropbox.....35.57.png?dl=0 & (btw. this isn't my usual build order, :smilehuh: but it shows the "in-game" issue I face) https://www.dropbox.....06.16.png?dl=0

As you can see in the screenshots, there are mysterious failures to draw some of the textures (right up to the edge of the viewing window), and the camera height will make playing almost impossible!

Are there any solutions to both these issues... I do apologize for having to externally link the screenshot images, but I am new here, and cannot see how to embed the images into this thread.

Thanks in advance... PS if it's not ok to hijack the thread, I am happy to start a new thread and link to this one?

Hm... I’ll let it slide for this once.
Are you using the Ultimate Collection by any chance? To get a better idea what might be going on.

This may sound funny...

Can you try running Generals - Zero Hour game as Administrator to see if that makes any difference.

Hi. Thanks for your quick replies.

I actually found the desktop shortcut that I have is actually set to run Zero Hour in administrator mode already. But I went into the folder and directly ran from Administrator Mode. Still no change.

When Zero Hour first opens, it opens this launcher: https://www.dropbox.....30.16.png?dl=0 (which I expect is from Origin). So I wonder if that's conflicting Admin Mode?

Also during load, I noticed this: https://www.dropbox....mage-1.png?dl=0 (The error is written on the loading screen, in the lower left-hand corner). But I haven't modified my game, other than changing the camera height for 1920x1080.

If you think its the camera setting that has corrupted my Zero Hour install, can you supply a link to repair?

Once again.. your help is duly appreciated.
