Mapping Mountains + Adjusting Zoom

Best Answer Bofur, 24 December 2013 - 08:57 PM

1) Edit, Edit Map settings.

2) Personally, I set out the general contours with the set height tool, then smooth it off. Then just set it to small radii and high height change, then move them quickly over the land, sometimes adding ridges. Then smooth that a bit.

Any use? Go to the full post

Hey guys,

been awhile since i have posted in the modding section but i have 2 questions.

One: How can i adjust the zoom on a map?

Two: Whats a good general rule of thumb for mapping mountains? I know how to use the tools but feel like i just cant get them the right height...

When you say mountains, do you mean the raised terrain points that are about 20 feet high?  Or an actual mountain that's hundreds of feet high that usually takes up most of the map?  Or what the map is built around.

Study real mountains and how valleys and ridges work. =D

The more you use the tools the more what you make will look like what you want.

For Mordor mountain details I have a similar style to Bofur, medium brush with 0-1 feather and 3-6 raise or lower, top down view, turn down all the settings to low detail, and quickly go over the mountain areas.

Also try to let the texture choose where to raise and lower. The ramp tool is also useful.
