Excellent to see the LAATs--I've always been more interested in the early side of the tech tree rather than the late.

Here's to a 2012 release!

Yeah. These are Low Altitude Tranports with serious attitude! While they waste ground forces they are vulnerable to enemy air power.

Something that just occurred to me. Scale. How do the small things look when zoomed out? IIRC, Portable Assault Sentries were described as backpack size. (I can pull that off the top of my head from a game I last played in 2004...)

They're 0.5 meters when packed. Hard to hit, but a rifle bolt will destroy them. That was an awful screenshot to get because the camera doesn't work well at that distance.

I saved about 200 screenshots between these two posts and discarded 80% (200-300 more that were taken, but not saved). That's old-fashioned Print Screen to clipboard too.

Also nuts. :wink_new:

Everything that flies is relatively fragile - I don't expect to ever use the top half of armor classes for airspeeders. "Dedicated anti-air" is somewhat of a misleading way to think about it though, since a number of units can perform decently well in that role without being specialized. It's usually a matter of having turreted guns opposed to swiveled or fixed. Arrow-23s, Freerunners, and Trackers can fend for themselves against air attacks, whereas Overracers, PX-10s, and QH-7s are completely vulnerable. Build pad anti-air turrets do make a difference if they can get set up (they're no longer mostly worthless). At the same time, if you deploy airspeeders correctly, they can dominate a battle. LAATs and Lancets also don't show up often enough where you should need to worry about them (plus, they're very vulnerable to conventional aerofighters).

Great to spotlight some of the new units and contributions. Going to lose a lot of battles as I mash the screenshot button.

I'm loving the addition of new atmospheric craft, just wondering, how hard are they to kill without dedicated anti-air? How do, say, Freerunners fare against Lancets or AT-ST's against the LAAT?

Generally concentrated fire from ground units can bring down air units eventually but you will probably take some casualties.
