Is there a way to keep heroes alive in auto resolve? Prison or shuttle escape?
Fraid Not. They tend to be vaped.
Something about the hero companies, becuase the heroes get listed as hero companies in a single transport (and therefore with very low health compared to most other units). As the "weakest" unit, it's probably the first to die.
The AI can't see that heroes attach to the largest ship in tactical. Vape one hero.
Well let heroes die in auto resolve and lose their ship or tank. If you win the fight then just revive/clone them. If you lose your auto resolve fight, then send them to prison (maybe on the same planet) or let them escape in a shuttle (chance/stealth character).
I sacrificed raiding squads to kill palpatin/vader in my game.

But now it's gone from "sometime in February to "due imminently."
Death Star in firing range.
Imminently is February!
What year? :/

Interestingly enough, their last releases were both around the same time, too...
