To pick up this 'bug', the independents disappear after a while, but they are not rebuildable. Only part of the script seems to work. It doesn't catch them dying, or else doesn't remove the team when they do by script, so i just commented out the 'independent' scripts altogether.

They should be.

When heroes die in a tactical space or land battle, are they re-buildable?

It was a late change to cover up the fact that the locking script wasn't affecting other factions. You get them for 5 days at a time for 2500, but can rehire as many times as you like.

So it was intended to be that way? It would be nice to implement some notification like "Your contract with X has expired". Are they available for hire only once in a campaign?

Oh. Independent heroes are temporary hires! Definitely not for garrison duty.

Your droid advisor should say "X was assassinated!" I think. The heroes should be available to train from their homeworlds.

Hm, should I get some kind of notification when that happens? Also, if they suffer a non-bug induced death, are they permanently out of the game, or are available later, like in vanilla EaW?

Is it possible that your heroes were assassinated?

I am playing Inner rim as Empire and I have experienced two disappearances of heroes so far. First it was Bossk. I thought it happened after a battle, but when I loaded a recent save and observed carefully, it turned out that it was not related to battle - it was week 13 or 16, and if I remember correctly he disappeared when the third green rectangle lit. Later I hired IG-88 who also disappeared, but I failed to notice when did it happen (I surely did not lose him in a battle).
