Should be mentioned when things are turreted or not, like the quad ions on the Y-Wing. That's significant enough to mention as a fighter support role.

It makes up for it's low speed that it doesn't have to re-orient itself supporting other fighters in say a dogfight since it's ion cannons are turreted.

Sorry about the massive delay. Day after my last final, and I managed to wake up extremely sick. Go figure.
Hope to get some more work done on this anyways over the next couple days.
Edit: Er... I did a bunch of work, but it's not showing up here. I'm not at home and can't check what the problem is. *Embarassed*

Right. Wish I had more time to work on this. Still ill, and I managed to miss the entirety of the hardest section in my math class. It could be several weeks before I get time to put the needed work into this. :D

Don't forget that the Skipray's sensor jamming, like the A-Wing's, prevents missiles from homing on it. I dunno if it reduces turret accuracy like it used to in vanilla FoC (I doubt it).

Really great unit guide. I say this should be included in 1.2 as a help guide. Perhaps it could be added into the droid hints too.

(This may take a while. I've been horribly sick and so have fallen behind in class.)
Would you prefer I use codeboxes?

So you're playing the game and you look at the unit list and go, "Wow, that's a lot of units and stats. But what does each do? What's their role?"
Hence, Unit Guide. Feel free to contribute. I prefer high survivability myself, so my use of smaller ships is limited.
NOTE: This will currently be based on the max upgraded versions of the units available to the player to build in order to save time, space, and sanity. Will follow same order as website listing.
NOTE: Name of the unit links to the baseline unit's stats. I would prefer not to place stats in this guide, as the guide will already be very long. Heroes will not be included.
I apologize for the length of this post. I tried to use the Hide tags, however, they did not work.

There will be an outline of roletypes by completion.

Utility: <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
CT Space Tug
Faction: Alliance, Empire, CSA
Role: Spam Repair
Abilities: Repair - Automatic Ability: Repairs the hull of any nearby allied unit
Description: Extremely fragile and not very fast, the Space Tug is cheap, quick to build, and the best repair to population ratio you can buy.

Fighters: <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
E-Wing Escort Starfighter
Faction: Alliance
Role: Fighter/Light Bomber
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Damage Control - Automatic Ability: The unit slowly repairs it's own hull over time
Description: This tough fighter carries enhanced lasers and a rapid-fire proton torpedo launcher, giving it an edge in both starfighter engagements and anti-ship runs. Well suited for engaging light anti-starfighter ships.

IRD Fighter
Faction: CSA
Role: Fighter
Abilities: Unknown
Description: Advanced models are still in testing, thus only the developers know it's true performance. Baseline models appear to fit the fighter profile, however.

Mankvim Light Interceptor
Faction: CSA
Role: Spam Interceptor
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Very fast, very cheap, very fragile, and very poorly armed. Use the Mankvim en masse to overwhelm tougher opposing fighters.

Preybird-class Starfighter
Faction: Empire, CSA
Role: Heavy Fighter
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Very heavily armed for engaging opposing fighters, interceptors, bombers and transports. Expensive, but can both take and dish out a lot of damage.

RZ-1 A-wing Interceptor
Faction: Alliance
Role: Interceptor
Abilities: Sensor Jamming - Activated Ability: Causes nearby enemy missiles to lose their target and go off-course
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Small and fragile, it's maneuverability and speed combined with swiveled lasers and concussion missiles give it the edge to get more hits in while avoiding retaliatory fire. Sensor Jamming stops those pesky seekers from ruining your day.

R-41 Starchaser
Faction: Alliance
Role: Fighter
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: A pair of ion cannons give this fighter an advantage in taking down heavily shielded opponents. It's also fairly cheap.

T-65 X-Wing Starfighter
Faction: Alliance
Role: Light Fighter/Light Bomber
Abilities: Stutter Fire - Activated Ability: The fighter fires at a slightly reduced power, but at a far greater rate
Lock S-Foils - Toggleable Ability: Locks the S-Foils closed to increase speed, but reduce firepower
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Damage Control - Automatic Ability: The unit slowly repairs it's own hull over time
Description: Well balanced agility, defense, and offense, the infamous X-Wing is a versatile ship. It can hold it's own in dogfights, and three torpedo launchers make it very effective at quickly destroying lightly armored targets.

TIE Avenger
Faction: Empire
Role: Heavy Interceptor
Abilities: Flare - Activated Ability: Disables nearby enemy missiles
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Very fast and heavily shielded, the Avenger makes quick work of enemy squadrons with a large payload of concussion missiles and lasers. It also has an advanced flare system to draw opposing missiles away from the expensive Avengers. Relatively weak hull, so watch out for those concussion missiles.

TIE Interceptor
Faction: Empire
Role: Light Interceptor
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Cheap, maneuverable, fast, and fragile. The Interceptor packs a number of lasers in order to chew through the opponent's shields and hull.

TIE Defender
Faction: Empire
Role: Multi-role
Abilities: Flare - Activated Ability: Disables nearby enemy missiles
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Expensive, very maneuverable, extremely fast, and very heavily shielded. The Defender is a very tough opponent and can survive a number of laser hits. With both lasers and ion cannons, fighter opponents are not safe from it, and it has a pair of torpedo launchers to harass larger ships. Like the Avenger, the Defender has a flare launcher and a weak hull. Be careful against concussion missile armed opponents, or these very expensive craft can perish quickly.

TIE Fighter
Faction: Empire
Role: Spam Fighter
Abilities: Rapid Fire - Activated Ability: The fighter fires greatly accelerated rate
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Famous for being very cheap, fast, maneuverable, and weak. This fragile craft relies on numbers to defeat opponents. It's lasers are slightly stronger and have a little longer range than those found on most other starfighters.

Xm Nova Wing
Faction: Empire
Role: Heavy Fighter/Bomber
Abilities: SLAM - Activated Ability: Gives the fighter a large speed boost for a short period
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Carrying a massive payload of missiles and torpedoes, the Nova Wing chews through the hull of any opponent at a ferocious rate. Expensive, but the constant stream of warheads make this an opponent to be feared.

Z-95 Headhunter
Faction: Alliance, CSA
Role: Light Fighter
Abilities: Lock S-Foils - Toggleable Ability: Locks the S-Foils closed to increase speed, but reduce firepower
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: A cheap, basic fighter. A pair of concussion missile launchers give it an edge over the Imperial and CSA basic fighters, the TIE Fighter and Mankvim Light Interceptor, respectively.

Bombers: <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
B-Wing Assault Starfighter
Faction: Alliance
Role: Fighter-bomber
Abilities: Lock S-Foils - Toggleable Ability: Locks the S-Foils closed to increase speed, but reduce firepower
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the bomber to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Packed with lasers, ion cannons, and torpedo launchers, these bombers can power through anything in their way.

BTL K-Wing Assault Starfighter
Faction: Alliance
Role: Heavy Bomber/Fighter Support
Abilities: SLAM - Activated Ability: Gives the fighter a large speed boost for a short period
Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the fighter to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Armed with lasers, slugthrowers, concussion missiles, plasma torpedoes, and a whole slew of proton torpedo launchers, the K-Wing devastates any opponent. They are large, very expensive, high-priority targets, however, so keep them under control. With a turreted quad laser and turreted dual laser, they provide good support while your fighters distract fast, light opponents.

BTL Y-Wing Starfighter
Faction: Alliance
Role: Heavy Bomber/Fighter Support
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the bomber to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Slow and unwieldy, the comparatively inexpensive Y-Wing packs a big, slow moving punch. Proton rockets smash the hull of any stationary or slow moving targets. A quad ion cannon gives the bomber excellent performance against heavily shielded opponents, and also makes it a prime support ship in a dogfight.

Scimitar Assault Bomber
Faction: Empire
Role: Heavy Bomber
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the bomber to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: Sledgehammer of the Empire. The Scimitar engages ships with 16 torpedo tubes, giving it extremely heavy damage on each firing. The tubes are angled downwards though, so while the target has virtually no chance to evade the torpedoes, the Scimitar must be virtually on top of the target before it can fire. It is too lightly armed to engage opposing fighters, so make sure these forces are escorted, during it's minute-long reload time.

TIE Bomber
Faction: Empire
Role: Bomber
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the bomber to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: A large store of concussion missiles makes for a nasty surprise to those fighter pilots, however, poor shielding and maneuverability mean this bomber should not enter an actual dogfight. A very strong hull keeps the bomber alive, though.

Xg Star Wing
Faction: Empire
Role: Bomber
Abilities: Hunt - Toggleable Ability: Causes the bomber to automatically seek out and engage enemy forces
Description: A basic bomber with better shielding than the TIE Bomber, it trades concussion missiles for multiple ion cannons, giving this ship an edge against highly shielded opponents.
