Well, even though we like to talk like philosiphers and come up with solutions to world problems and have deep discussions, most of us will probably not make it anywhere and eventually shrivel up and die, idealism still burning inside a few of us. Most of us will end up completely alone, unable to so much as move up the stairs. Then we'll realize that everything we've done was totally futile as we gaze outwards from our wheelchairs, especially come up with great ideas that never went into effect. And that's why life preeeeeetty much sucks. However, acceptance of this is much easier than trying to keep yourself happy late at night when you start thinking about things like this.

I expect exactly that to happen to me, as I try to avoid any serious ambition. If I set my standards low enough for myself, even slight success or minor failure will seem great!

Well, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside now so I'll go to bed.

And I'll probably delete this in the morning because I think it's probably totally pointless and you'll all hate me for it. I haven't slept for a while so I have an excuse.

Goodnight.

Who gives a shit about any of this?

Live life to its fullest, because you're a long time dead. Futile or not, that doesn't prohibit you from self-actualisation.

Exactly. I'm an atheist, there is no afterlife, so enjoy the time you have. Make the most of it!

And yes, most of us will be just the average people who are the gears and cogs of society... but if you have something you want to achieve, you may as well have a go...

edit: since when have I been an optimist? Must be too much sugar in my tea...

You know, as soon as I posted that I thought: everyone will probably be pretty cool about it and have a laugh except Paradox. I don't think he likes me very much.

A sufficient amount of darkness will erase anything that happened in that tiny sliver of light that was your life so it's not hugely important.

Precisely! So my advice to everyone is: don't even try. No matter how well you do, it won't mean anything.

Once you accept that fundemental truth, all the world problems discussed here don't even seem like that big a deal!

I hope my potentially rich friends will have comfortable basements for me to live in.

EDIT: Oh, and when I posted this I was operating from the base assumption that you were smart guys and had ennough of a sense of humor to understand that this was in a humorous tone. I can only hope that I was right in that and none of you are idiots who will get pissed.

The awful truth I'm afraid

Your only saviour may be to cling to the hope that time is an illusion and everything happens at the same time forever.

So after you'e done everything you want to do I suggest you basically spend the rest of your life on mind-altering drugs trying to work that one out.

I'm serious.

I'll spend my life on mind-altering drugs to work out how you're all so fucking pansy and self-pitying. You give those religious fanatics grounds for their beliefs about atheists and the whole fact we all just give up and die because we know there's no afterlife.

Grow a fucking spine, the lot of ya. Go live your life, cuz you're a long time dead. There's so much to do there's no way you can't find nothing to do.

And if you still want to kill yourself? Don't talk about it. Actions speak louder than words..

I find this tendency more and more common, and i believe it is the failure of the free market. More and more young people lose their dreams and ambitions of becomind something more, something special. Now boys want to be engineers, and girls want to be nurses.

I say: Fuck that. If i wanna dream about becoming a famous rockstar, i wanna do that. I dont wanna become a fuckin' electrician or your other average Joe.

:salute:

But what kind of people work in a grocery store when they are 40? Its just so... sad? But i guess it has to be like that, for our society to exist in it current form.

i had a reply ready, but what would life be if you couldnt bother to write another.

"if you aim for the skies, you will at least hit the trees" is a nice line for this. if you give up early and go nihilistic, then you will not be able to get anywhere and you have fulfilled your own purpose, which was to give up becoming anything.

aim to become something and you will at least end up somewhere between that point and the start-line, which is alot better than never crossing the start-line. nobody has turned into anything overnight without putting alot of work into it, as there is no government institution that makes your dreams come true for you.

alot of people stop caring once they get a job that gives them an acceptable wage.

(Kal)

And, of course, I REALLY want to be super-rich.

Yes guys, stop talking shit! Life DOES matter because you can be RICH

Or have a really nice car

that's what it's all about

The only way that could possibly happen is if I was a rock star, as i intend to start a band, and even in that highly unlkely event i would not live the life of a rich person.

I DO NOT CARE ABOUT MONEY

Money has nothing to offer me

money doesn't make happy (as the saying goes), but it can help :)

but there are more important things than a big house or fast car
