Well we've decided to stay away from trying to recreate any famous 40k characters and come up with our own heroes and villains..

what would you like?

I'd probably make like some generic Guard Major or something commanding a group of kasrkins or guardsmen and have a couple of skills like..

tube-charges - see commando c4
morale boost - health regeneration and boost in damage in a smallish radius
heroic presence - makes units close to the major get a boost in maximum health or armour


that's what i'd like to make ;)

sounds like the best way to do it ;)

or the guards hero could have an ability to call inn grav chute troops and call the ability " one-way ticket"

or the ability to entrench and call it "nine-seventies"

good idea not doing named heroes. there's a lot of risk of GW knocking them off when they no longer need them. (they did that to Commissar Yarrick)

Necrons have to have the Necron Lord with resi orb (if that's possible) or a destroyer lord.

IG: how about one of the assasins? the vindicare (sniper) for example.
otherwise a squad of veterans or the like as you described.

SM: Veterans?
commander with terminator armour? or a jetpack?
Chaplin?
Librarian? he'd have plenty of psycic powers.

Yeah the necrons will probably get either the lord or the destroyer lord.. since there arent that much to pick from in a soulless metal lump of an army :mellow:

I'm not sure if we'd go with the vindicare as its too dawn of wary .. maybe tho, not certain since they are badass

it really depends what we're looking for in our hero units.

do we want the cnc3 style saboteurs, or for more 40K powerhouses? or perhaps a more micro-focused support role?

I recomended the vindicare because he fits the commando saboteur style perfectly. he's only in DOW's IG because they couldn't find another commander unit to put in having glued them all together in the command squad, and because the IG didn't have any infiltrators. he's not even a proper IG unit, any Imperium army can take him.

the question with the necron lord is whether we can do the resi orb.

you don't necessarily need to use the vindicare, you could use one of the other imperial assasins :rolleyes:

or whatever. the vindicare fits best into a commando role, but you could use whichever.

Kasarkin come in squads, not a single unit. they'd be more like the GDI Zone troopers than the commando.

well you're going to have to choose someone. and think of what abilities they could have.

don't see why resi orbs aren't do-able, might only be that he spawns forces dormant below the planets surface rather than re-incarnates battered crons though.

Vindicares are cool but the callidus is cooler :unsure:

Also i see no reason why hero units couldn't be whole squads, or even a heroic "geezer" with some form of retinue.

it really depends what we're looking for in our hero unit.

squads have a big disadvantage: when you take out 1 member, you take out a portion of their damage. and you can't get that member back, even if they're top level veterancy.

that's almost unoticable with normal squads, it's rather noticable with rocket and sniper squads. with a hero squad, you'll feel each one who dies.

the heroic geezer would be going in for the standard tt powerhouse heroes. we need to decide what type we want first.

and the thing with the resi orb is it's only meant to resurect battered 'crons, and all of them in a certain area. it may be we can't do that.
