Oh, that's interesting. Aragorn's quest didn't look too good to me, but I'm sure it would be fun to play. I myself would probably get Lego:LotR, but I have enough games I'm interesting in not to play all of these. In general, I try to shy away from LotR games at all, since you can't have lore accuracy and good gameplay at the same time, and I do like both.

Thanks for the update soulfox :p
I hadn't heard of it but I am kind of wondering why you posted this in the SEE structures part of the SEE development area. Can't exactly see a connection between this news and SEE structures. ^_^

NOT EA? Well, that's good news. Let's hope that the new WB games aren't childish! I do wonder what the new games will include besides what we are informed of...

and yes, you can have lore accuracy AND good gameplay. It just takes a long amount of development time.

With development time you can bring a game closer to both sides, but you can get %100 on both. At least, gameplay is objective so can't say absolutely, but I have yet to find a game that does both, and don't see any possibility of it ever being possible. I believe Tolkien said something about his distaste for the adaptions on his works. LotR just doesn't make a good movie, or a good game. Some styles of games, like a single-character action game, could be done accurately to the lore, but an RTS, not so much.

before i get started, i think this thread should be moved into the spam section.

what i would like to see is a video game with christopher tolkien in consultation, with all the units/buildings looking just like christopher tolkien (the only true source of canon now) imagines them. it would be interesting, because i think that some stuff will look very different from the film, especially guys like easterlings, and even faramir and boromir.

it's a shame that he doesn't want to get involved with the making of such films and video games. i think that it would only be good for jrr tolkien's memory if films and video games are made true to his vision, and not with all this creative license that some games take.

If I was him I wouldn't have let them make the films at all. IIRC, Tolkien believed LotR would never work as a film, and I would want to respect that. Perhaps Christopher got greedy.

Tolkien was desperate for money at some point in his life (I forget WHEN exactly), and I think that selling the Movie Rights was the only way to get the money he needed. Or something like that. I read a few biographies about him in my spare time.

People who think the movies or games should not have been made, I don't understand you.

- Tolkien got money
- The film makers / game developers got money
- Fans got a product
- People got interested in LotR and started reading the books even more
- You don't have to see/play the derivatives

So, win for everybody

You say win for everybody, but it's not a win for Tolkien, if he never wanted a movie to be made of it. He And he was right. It doesn't make a good movie. It's just not possible to make a good movie that follows the books. People fail to understand that. I find what they've done disrespectful to Tolkien.

There's a whole lot more to a "win" than just money. In general it seems people with more money are losing the most of anyone. Ruining a great book and destroying the author's wishes doesn't sound like a win to me. I couldn't say exactly what his wishes were, but I don't think a movie was in them.

Ahem. Tolkien didn't dislike the idea of a movie being made... in fact, quite the opposite. He thought that LotR would be good material for movie-makers. *I read that in a book that my friend gave to me...*
