I'm posting this here as I'm not sure where else to do so;

I recently attempted to install T3A for BFME 1, the installation itself went fine, however when I tried to play a skirmish, or even the campaign (when applying a mod), the game gave me an automatic defeat message each time after three minutes. I then uninstalled the game and patches and attempted to do so again, up until the official 1.03 game patch, everything worked fine for me, however when I tried installing patches 1.05/1.06, these issues began to pop up each time.

I own a legal copy of the DVD version of the game, and can freely use mods that require patch 1.03 or lower, however after attempting to uninstall and re-install each of those patches multiple times the error still occurs.

If anyone could help me out with a solution to fix this I'd appreciate it, I did try looking through previous posts but was unable to find anything relating to it.

Very interesting, does

Step 1: Go to your bfme directory
(default location C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\The Battle for Middle-earth ™ )

Step 2: Delete the following file LOTRBFMe.dat

Step 3: Run lotrbfme_inst.exe which can be found in next to this text file you opened.

help?

That appears to have fixed the issue, thanks.

Just an update on this one, that did fix it for a while, however it's begun to do it again. It started happening after I tried adding a mod to it (TEA:CE), so I uninstalled that and tried again and the results keep happening. I even uninstalled/re installed it again and the problem persists once again and the above method does not fix it.

Well I have no idea. Make a clean uninstall and delete remaining files and registry keys manually, then try again.

Well, I've tried that, except for deleting the registry keys, (since I can't actually find it's location in the registry editor, it's not in the usual area).

But you can play once you uninstall the patches 1.05+1.06?

Not anymore no, once I go past patch 1.03, it happens. 1.05 does work sometimes however.

Did you install 1.06 with the T3A launcher or with the standalone installer for 1.06?

Does it work with one of them (and the other uninstalled)?

I installed it with the launcher, and it's not working in either scenario. Looking through my registry however, I noticed that my EA files are being diverted to a sub-directory, the current path is this; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Electronic_Arts/EA_GAMES/The_Battle_for_Middle-earth/ergc

Could that be an issue?

that's the key containing the serial information if I'm not mistaken.

Uninstall & delete.

Do you use forshires online edition?

No, I'm using a DVD version of the game that I've had for years, and by uninstall/delete, do you mean the entire thing, or just that directory in the registry?

Delete it all and make sure the key gets also uninstalled. You could try forshires online edition (and update it) even if it does not include the campaign for testing purposes.

Well one of the main things in the mod I intended to install was the campaign. Not sure if it'd be compatible with that version.

Yeah but we need to figure out the reason for your resurrected autodefeat ;)

Ok, did another full uninstall and re-install. On this test, everything up to patch 1.05 worked fine, however when I updated it to 1.06, the issues started happening again. Which leads me to believe something in the automatic updater for 1.06 must be causing a conflict somewhere.

And when you uninstall the T3A launcher it works?

Try to use the standalone installer for patch 1.06 without the T3A launcher http://online.the3rd...1_Patch1.06.exe

That installer did the trick, everything works properly now without an auto defeat, even the aforementioned mod. Thanks for the help.
