Help please Contra crashes all the time!

Best Answer WWB2, 05 February 2017 - 02:06 PM

Hello -PHNX-,

Try to avoid the Laser AI, as it will build squid drones. These drones are bugged since the beta 2 version. In the next release this will be fixed.

I don't know if you built them, but refrain from doing so, and the crashes will (hopefully) occur less often. All other crashes occur because of the game itself.

I hope this helped.

Hey Guys, I joined MODDB & Revora just to say how awesome Contra is.  I'm an old-school Generals fan and only recently discovered Mods.  Having tried ROTR, Shockwave and Annihilation, I can safely say Contra is easily the best and most creative ZH mod out there.

But I’m cursed in that my favourite mod crashes to desktop in about 50% of games.  If I include Laser General in the Skirmish, either played by myself or as AI, then it’s a 100% crash rate.  The game just quits straight to desktop with the Technical Difficulties error. This only seems to happen with Contra, and all of the other mods mentioned above crash very rarely if at all.

I'm running Windows 10 on an i7 920 with 24GB ram, NVidia GTX660 2GB, and both the game and my documents folder are run from my 256GB Vertex 4 SSD.

I have:

  • Large Address Aware (LAA) labelled Generals.Exe (crashes happen with or without this)
  • Set Generals.Exe to run as administrator and in Compatibility mode for XP3
  • Given myself explicit full control permission over the .Ini files in my documents
  • Tried the Lag fix I found on the forum turning off ‘Allow Files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties’ for Contra folder.

CrashInfo.Txt is summarized below / attached in full if that helps.

Does anyone else have this problem or any ideas how to reduce these crashes please?

I'm a developer and I can confirm that what WWB2 said is true. Laser AI tries to build Squid Drones which have a small code problem in 009 Beta 2 version, which causes a game crash.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys.

It's good to know that you have the Laser General problem too.  I will remember not to pick them for AI or build the Squid drones myself.

It's interesting that you think the crashes might be the game itself, because it really seems to me like Contra crashes way more than any other ZH Mod.  Maybe it just seems that way because I've played a lot more Contra than any of the other, lesser mods!

If anyone else has any tips on how to improve stability I'd very much like to hear them.  Thanks again
