To me it won't make any difference really. I already have the 20 MB my ISP provides me with, and for anything mod-related I use the ReGen webspace (how much is that BTW?).

-102 meg :ermm:

I don't really mind how much space people use. You have to remeber- if you use lots of space, it's your job to make back ups.

How much space would people use if thay had this?
Would your average model be about 2mbs and you would have 10 models?
Along with a few images +5mb?

Do you think 30mbs would be enough?

Generals style gmax models will probably be no bigger than about 700KBs

30MB would probably be more than enough, I expect. But then, some people will want to put lots up, and some people won't put up very much at all...

Best would be to have a main page where you could search for different things like models, skins etc. And then the subsections for each modder.. I think this is an awesome idea, and if its clean without too much unnecassary information and cluttering it could work really really well!

It could feature all from tutorials to finished mods from a specific modder.. :tocol:

I'd just stick with the grouping in a similar fashion to what Ice just mentioned - it saves having way too many pages all over the place and links connected stuff together better. Then you'll no longer need to partition off space like that, as the group that needs the space will simply fill it. It will however take an overseer to check it out every now and then, but it should run fairly smoothly.

I think 20 mb or so would be enough. Unless you are doing audio or something, 20 mb is plenty of space. I don't have any space for my ISP, and I don't like using the GenDev space for my personal things. Setting this up wouldn't be too difficult, and with Cpanel, management would be fairly easy.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Being able to serch through all the files is a good idea.

User
A user would login and upload a file (forum attachment style). Thay could also give a description and put it in a group (like the W3D models group).

Viewer
A viewer could serch all the file descriptions for the word "tank" in the group 'W3D models'.

This gives the viewer an intresting place to look in. It gives the user a place to upload some files.

Would people still use it if thay knew everyone could download there files?

I think yes. If it's a major issue why don't we make a "protected" webspace with less capacity? That way people could upload some "secret" files but not many..

Or people could have a radio box saying:

(O) Make file Public
(X) Make file Private

I don't think thats needed. Would be a hassel for me to validate everyone for just some small file space.

I'll see if i can make this...

Also, if they don't upload anything, surely they are not using up any space, so it doesn't matter :/

I'll probably need a place to hold my ZH Skirmish AI scripting project as its been since late Jan and noone has it. I have lots of content and of course adding more but if people could see it then fine. Only prob is if I do send it up, you use it, then add yer own then I'll have to go back and revise things. Hmmm.. might be too much - tis why I want to go beta soon! :tocol:
