Nope, photo texture on a model.. fairly simple. Surely it's obviously a photo texture? I always use photos as much as possible for movie based stuff and hair and faces.. mas such not sure what you're on about Dain's beard... it's using real hair for a texture.
The model is 600 polies. About 550 if you get rid of the handle.

Now on to other matters: You people need to realise that skinning from scratch isn't the be all end all. Honestly, I know two maybe three people who can really pull off skinning from scratch in this community (don't you dare try guessing who I think they are). Just because someone uses a photo for a skin, it doesn't make the end product any less than if they had drawn it. We're not professionals here, so there's no need to draw something when using a source image will suffice. I for one, never hand draw anything, and am absolutely sick of hearing "from scratch". Don't get me wrong, I respect you guys for trying: just stop parading it around like a kid with a lollipop.

there is nothing bad in said from scratch or doing some thing from scratch It is just harder to do stuff from scratch and people feel prouder when they have done from scratch and they want others to know it. and well i am not sayng its bad to use images(it is when you suck at it )
I'm sorry, but I can't understand half of what you're saying . And if it's bad to use images when you suck at it, it's just as bad (if not worse) to skin from scratch when you suck at it.
EDIT: Matias has the right of it. Skin the way you like. Just know that it doesn't make you better or worse than someone who does the opposite.

From experience I learned that for me it's easier to draw, say, armor in the right lighting and proportion then to edit, manipulate and recolour pictures. For me that's less time consuming, but I think that doing everything from scratch would be little to no gain at the cost of alot more time for Cel and Dain.

But now I just like modelling it can be much more intresting in many respects.
I think if you had lots of pics of the front veiwes of the people or weapons or armour it would be way easyer
I think when EA did the cah, some of the textures were done that way.......Can someone enlighten me to the way they did it if I am wrong.
if anyone knows of a wealth of pictures thats unknown to me please tell me lol
it would really save time lol

Hey!!Oh after having read again the Lauri message, I think that maybe she said that you haven't done the model, if it's the case i apologize not to have understood
Anyone gonna back me up here? what's wrong??
A SotS beta to the one that guesses what's wrong with the line above (TDP's post lol)
BOT, uhm, I meant the model, heh....
Awsome work though, it's just the thing if you'd handdrawn it, I would've been MORE amazed than I'm already is! And that isn't little The model itself is amazing, and you've unwraped it PERFECT!!!
OT, I prefer handrawing, since I know how now use pics here and there though

It's harder to use photos then skinning from scratch to me. I could not manipulate pictures the way Celeglin, Rhiea and Dain do it. I lack the knowledge and patience, so I skin from scratch. I've been doing that for a long time, so now it's going alot faster then when I started. Still, I sometimes mix pics and scratch up for a maximal effect. Skinning is skinning, and if the outcome is good, who cares how you reached it.
*feels honored being three alphabet letters and two spaces away from Dain's name in a sentence, and one comma in front of Celeglin and being in a post by Matias. Biggest honor ever*
That's actually quite true, there was a point where handdrawn stuff was like, OMFG! and everything handdrawn was almost immediately taken in for good because there was that low standard for hand drawing textures then slowly raising the bar until now O.o (the dead player I believe and his AWESOME Men of dale or Tomat if he's still here) Still at one point I did feel sort of left out like in a playground where everybody's with their little handmade action figures and i'm with my cardboard cutouts.
Anyways a question for the most powerful dwarf. You use 3D Max for these awesome weaponary?
