beyond the eternal pleasure of war, when the dead rule and the living die, and the pain of destruction has reigned. when skulls are crushed under the threads of heavy metal. when this time comes i shall arise and rule you all HAIL TO THE KING. praise all forms of xeno for they inherit the future

Interestingly, he was also the god of vegetation.
Set was originally god of the desert. Later, he was the one who killed Osiris before he was subsequently resurrected to become lord of the afterlife. Set became god of storms.
If there is truly a god of the underworld and of death itself, it would be Anubis.

Debatable. Even before Osiris came to rule the underworld, Anpu's godliness was more about safe passage to the underworld after than of being a reaper-like character. You prayed to him for Uncle Deady to be watched over during his long journey to the afterlife. If there was a deity of death itself it would probably be Nepthysys whom was the wife of Set, and depending on which myths you follow, the mother of Anpu (illegitimate, with Osiris).
Still, he's basically more like a high-ranking Charon figure than a Thanatos or Hades.
Doesn't stop him from being bad-ass though.

And coming up next time on Coronation Street. Is Ay really guilty of killing Tutankhamun, will he walk free from his trial, or be sent down for murder, also has Ahkenaten been cheating on Kiya? Be sure to tune in when the sun reaches the Great Pyramid to find out, only on the Bird Bird Person-Striking-Odd-Pose Fish Bird Ankh Beetle Channel.

But I call it a comedy instead of a soap, someone in a real soap wouldn't deliver the line "But he wouldn't love you if he knew you were a subucus trying to kill him!" quite so emotionlessly
