But then what would be the point in having the spear? Because it's a small one, so they can't use it in anti-cavalry, but more so in normal close combat. This one's making me think! :p :)

Well I looked at the button art and the toggle button seems to be a bow/spear, so that's how I came up with the idea.

Maybe they made it so that *gasp* spears actually have a longer range than swords *gasp*.

Yes this one is confusing. Maybe they did what BFME+ did with the dallic warriors? That was to have a standard unit which can then be upgraded into a couple of different unit types.

Maybe it's kind of like the Age of Empires rock/paper/scissors system, where spears are good against one type, arrows against another, and swords a third.

I think Alsch has it right, but yeah, it still doesn't explain anything. :thumbsupsmiley: Just to narrow it down a bit further: it wouldn't be like the Mirkwood Megilherdir (I think it's them), because there's no Gondorian/Arnorian upgrade that adds spears to any unit. My guess is that they randomly spawn with spears in hand, and then they toggle to bows. But then that would be far too complicated for just one type of unit. At the moment it's the only thing I can come up with.

To Ororin about some rangers spawn w/ spears while some spawn w/ swords.

Would the ones with spears count as a pikemem while those with swords count as infantry? I think that rangers would spawn with both but in all considered to be normal infantry units

Well in that case orcs easily have more than 3 weapons, because it's random which they spawn with?

I took Matias' comment to mean that each person could wield all 3 weapons, not that they just got varied between 3 weapons.

I'll clarify. Cos I'm nice like that.

Dunedain rangers are stealthy units. They can be upgraded with heavy armour, but this looses them their stealth. Their primary weapons are a sword and a spear. Each gives different advantages in armour/attack/speed. They are therefore, initially a stealthy quite powerful close combat unit.

The dunedain bows upgrade is purchased from the dunedain camp. It allows you to give your battalions bows giving them a ranged attack instead of their spear. While the bows aren't the best in the game (slowish attack speed, lowish range) the fact that you've given them to some of the most powerful units in the game.

So all in all, Dunedain rangers are versitile.

BTW, Halbarad now wields a sword and spear.

I know it's a little late saying this, seeing as how Dain has cleared it up already, but I just want to make a few points:

To Ororin about some rangers spawn w/ spears while some spawn w/ swords.

Would the ones with spears count as a pikemem while those with swords count as infantry? I think that rangers would spawn with both but in all considered to be normal infantry units

That's exactly what I said; some spawn with spears while others get swords. :) And how can you spell Olorin wrong?

Well in that case orcs easily have more than 3 weapons, because it's random which they spawn with?

But all those weapons all have the same animations, am I right? Spears would have different animations to swords, even I know that.

Minas Morgul all the freakin' way man. It is going to be awesome to create an army and lead them to victory by the end of the game, but Arnor is a close second. Being as they got one unti that does the job of an army.

Rivendell are kinda cool, i like high elves, and ive only seen the minifactions for mirkwood, mordor and gondor, the minas morgul guys are skined well, though, and dunidain (or whatever) rangers are pretty cool, I cant decide :thumbsupsmiley: and the gondor battle music is COOL :thumbsupsmiley: it is perfectly suited more Gondor, as is the engines of war is suited to Mordor.
