Any class is good for 'solo' if you have another player accompanying you. I once tanked Fornost with my hunter, accompanied only by a loremaster. Got about 4 quests done as well as some great loot *tries to hide 450s repair costs*.

My hunter teams with a loremaster (best...combination...ever). I dish out insane dps, she deals out nice, dps, heals me and replenishes my power so I can go on dishing out even insaner dps. Plus because of my agility I have high evade chances.

Our alts are a guardian and a minstrel respectively. It's much slower this way, as I lack the dps to do anything amazing and she can't afford to use DPS because she's constantly healing me. We can take on about 5 elites at once (several levels lower), but it takes a blooming long time (usually kill 3 of them using entirely auto attacks after using all my power to generate insane aggro).

I think LOTRO should be renamed the mod killer because it really takes away time that is usually spent modding :p
I do most of my killing solo but am supported during quests by hunter friend.
450 sil to repair it brings a tear to the eye and i'm pissed at paying 50 sil (over 12 sil for a necklace).
At first my Dwarf was the first one to die in quests but I am pretty strong now and now that i'm starting get some good gear and taking buttloads of damage without even flinching it's becoming a lot more fun.
I've taken to going solo into the Old Forest and taking down Hourns.
Or watching fellowships attacking orc camps and me just rushing in and taking half the camp on me and smashing them on my own ;)

Well, I'll be able to play again soon. My dad has just gone over to the mainland to visit my uncle and I asked him to pick up a Game Time Card while he is there :p

i don't believe you can be an ent.
and if players could be an ent they would be way overpowered i guess.
If the above post offended you in any way,
please take note that, until further notice, I don't care, so get lost.

You can be a Dwarf, Elf, Hobbit or Race of Man. The Dwarves are the only race that do not have any playable female characters (Not including Monster-Play).

You occasionally team with NPC's (teamed with Legolas and Gimli so far myself). This isn't as good as it sounds, as they are complete morons (attacking stunned enemies, charging forward with about 200hp left etc ;)).

About ents...loremasters have a legendary trait which summons an ent spirit, so that may be what you saw. They're not controllable though, as they wuld be insanely overpowered (and if they weren't it wouldn't be true to the lore).

Na, was on holiday last week and have alt-itis, so zimoo's still sitting at 47.

Zimoo's my least favourite character atm. Since returning from holiday I've used him for low level mob slaughtering and that's it :( Oh and a bit of PvMP :D. I prefer the complexity of my other characters to the boring 2-shot rotation of the hunter.

I am planning on getting this game and wasgoing to start out as an elven hunter, but I read on the sites that their melee sucked. I was wondering if you could focus on bow, sword and woodcraft things (like traps and traking, etc) evenly to have an all around character. Also, what are the perks to being a hunter and what are the disadvantages, in your opinion?

P.S. Whats the difference between the different servers?
Thanks.

Our melee skills don't suck, but we are quite fragile. We rely on taking away most of an enemies health before the melee, where our melee skills are more than enough to finish them off. A good hunter will assess the situation, lay traps and gather focus before battle. In this way we are disadvantaged when getting attacked by surprise.

For pure one-on-one killing power, hunters are best. If you want to be able to zoom through battles you should choose a hunter (although we are disadvantged when fighting more than 2 enemies).

Our advantages are our high damage, tracking and transportation. It takes a long time to move around in LOTRO, but we have a passive speed boost effecting all fellowship members (+15%) and several group travels to big areas (Bree, Rivendell etc).

Disadvantages are that we are so common that it's hard to get a group. This is made even harder by the fact the majority of hunters give us a bad name.

If you're looking for solo/group of friends playing hunters are great. My hunter is adored by my kinship for his DPS, travel skills and small crowd control capabilities. If however, you want to do loads of 'pickup groups' (i.e. sending messages to chat for help), hunter is probably the worst class to choose. Best choose something like a minstrel/guardian in that situation.

Different servers have varying populations. For instance the oldest ones logically have the highest population. There is also Roleplaying servers, as well as different language servers (probably only in Europe).

Whats "DPS"? So, its hard to get a group with a hunter? Then if so, I would try to find some one around here who plays or one of my friends, although soloing does sound cool. Kinda like Beleg looking for turin :good: .
Any other tips for being a hunter? Thanks a lot.

DPS is damage per second.

It is hard to get a group with a hunter. Luckily I'm in a helpful kin, who although small will always help me.

If you do become a hunter, try and play it well (sounds obvious I know, but most people seem to TRY and play it badly :good:). Lay traps to temporarily remove extra enemies from the battle. Inflict a nice amount of damage, but don't go so crazy on the damage that you pull the enemy towards you. Let's face it, if you're the enemy who are you going to attack? The shield-bearer lightly hitting you in the face with it or the archer standing there pouring arrows into you? I personally always wait for a few seconds when grouping before attacking, and then auto-attack (i.e. no special abilities) for a few seconds more. Aslong as the guardian is doing his job well he should keep the enemy attacking him for the duration of the battle, while you're free to fire off all your high damage attacks.

Soloing with a hunter is a completely different game though. Here you want/need to inflict as much damage as possible as quick as possible, to avoid being ripped to shreds in melee.

What are kins? What do you need to do to join them. Are they like clans where you just sign up and rise in rank? Or are they something totally different? Thanks for answering my questions.

They are like clans. Most just recruit random people without prerequisite actions needed (so that they can boast on forums: my kin has over 100 members!). Some require you to fill out forms/try out in-game.

My advice to you, would be to join a small kin with some people who you play a lot with. My kin has 4 members, but we have so much fun together, as we are all really close and know each others fighting styles. In a large kin you're much less likely to find things like this.

There isn't many (official) ranks. There's member and officer basically.

Ok, sounds cool, I'll do that when I start to play. What about combat? It's real-time, not turn based right?
What server do you play on? Is it crowded? I'd rather start somewhere where I know one person at least. Thanks again for taking your time to do this, I'm sorry if my questions bother.
Oh, btw, is your kin recruiting, or is four the limit to one group of people.
You guys probably wouldn't want me anyway...

Yeah combat is real time. There's no long pauses in which you decide your moves, its all about quick decisions.

I play on Snowbourn, which is the most crowded European server.

We're not recruiting, because that would go against our play style. If we quest a lot with people, and get on well with them we may offer them a place in the kin though.
