The autocanon is a bit of an exception, because most of the french tanks and some of their planes were as good or better than their german rivals. Frankly of the two western allies, it was the UK that was seriously lacking in the early stages of the war as far as I'm concerned, they were saved by their poweful navy and the Channel.

lol, need one of them buggers for LS...
And to be fair, at the time they were introduced, French fighters were pretty neat. And the entire point was an AA gun on wheels, the fact it wasn't well armored was irrelivant for its role as a behind-the-lines support.
