Good questions...
I'd like to find out, but apparently I can no longer access the AdminCP...

Could it be a problem with the new PHP 5? Or could be someone who cracked a Leader account, which I hope isn't the case. Someone could have accidentally run an SQL quarry that could basically search and destroy anyone with ACP status, but if that's the case, why wasn't anyone else deleted. I've seen that happen before, and if that's the case it sucks.

If it sought and destroyed ACP status people, why did it affect me? I wasn't even able to post in half the forums on this place...

I think whoever did this wasn't just trying to cause damage, but was targeting specific people. Someone who has a grudge.

We have some serious problem here. I've unsuspended you, so you should be able to log in again.

Haven't got an answer to that. You're being unsuspended right now.

It's possible that an SQL Injection attack could do something like this. If that's the case...we've got a problem.

The forum was upgraded to reduce the chances of this problem happening again.

The "chance." The forum should be upgraded every new version to fix security holes, not to lower the chance.

It fixes some security holes that Invision spots, but I doubt they are able to spot every single security hole on every release, so, don't be naive here. We reduce the chances of being hacked, but we don't eliminate it entirely by simply applying Invision's fixes.

There was a reason behind the lack of updates. IPB 2.1.7 was relatively stable, upgrading requires testing all of the network back end, and it requires updating all of the skins. It's not like we ran a stable version of the forum just for the hell of not updating.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Well then maybe you need another server tech who is willing to do that job!

I'd love to, if I happened to have a supply of unlimited time, which strangely enough I don't. The skins issue alone required 3-5 hours of manual porting per skin, due to changes in the CSS. That ends up being something like 60-100+ hours of boring, repetitive work. The network backend is something that is easier to do, and ended up not being a major issue. Luckily the database schema is relatively stable within the IPB 2.x series, meaning that no major changes were required.
Also, quite frankly, I've been busy with maintenance and updates on the server itself, which is a rather large task (even with the able help of jnengland).

I'm not sure what part of "60-100+ hours of boring, repetitive work" you don't understand. This is a shitty job, and we can't afford to pay someone to do it for us, hence the absence of candidates for the position.

Definitely not the most pressing issue IMO.

How can there be an absence of candidates when we didn't even look for them? I'm sure there are people would volunteer to help out, for example by porting a skin. The problem is we're not looking for someone to fill up the ranks.
And you heard MM, server maintenance itself is very time consuming for two people, so surely three would make life easier.
