FILESIZES - Do not try to abuse things such as avatars and signatures. There are a lot of people who use these forums, and some of them are still on slow Internet connections. Please keep your avatars and signatures to a reasonable size. If the staff asks you to make it smaller, it's obviously not a reasonable size.

This is the only guideline to do with sigs and avatars, and doesn't mention anything about dimensions, only about filesize, and my signature is pretty damn small sizewise.

The staff has asked you to make it smaller, that means it's too large. There aren't any explicit rules on signatures, because it's difficult to create a comprehensive policy that covers everything. I can put some arbitrary numbers in the guidelines if you want, but it's supposed to be a common sense thing. If your signature stretches the page, it's too big.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Back on topic, then.

The only people disagreeing have ether been debunked or are making a fuss of it being "too much trouble" for something that THEY are in truth apathetic about.

This coming from someone who wants them made bigger purely on the basis that they've gotten themselves a fancy new monitor and thinks the avatars look a touch too small? :)
I'm using 1440x900 and the avatars are still looking good to me.
You want a fuller arguement? How about the people who don't have large monitors? The 1024x768ers or even the 600x800ers? Do they deserve to have a fifth of the screen taken up by personal identifiers because you feel the avatars look a tad small on your screen?

It's not going to make a difference what resolution you use, as it is filling empty space. All that is getting replaced is plain white space.

Also, those complaining how it will "stretch the page" - the page will be much longer from someone having an extra quote or a few userbars in their signature, not an extra measly 50 pixels on an avatar.

And we complain about long sigs too!
If its that important for you to have a bigger epenis, create a user stylesheet to chage the page as you see fit, click an ad in your spam, or reduce your display resolution.

This whole thing is a matter of personal preference anyway. As said before, I wouldn't want it any bigger than it is now, but if everyone else here wants it changed, then it will be done.
At the moment, however, it looks like it's just a few people who want it changed vs. more people who think it's fine. So either you guys convince the whole board to ask for bigger avatars, or you'll live with what we have now.

No they're not. You're the only stubborn one here. The dimensions aren't changing, get over it, and get over yourself while you're at it. :p

Only because you want it doesn't mean it needs to happen. Keep that in mind, it's a lesson for life.

I say go for it. I have 1024x768 resolution and there's still acres of space. As said there is no detriment.

I care not particularly either way but it won't do any bloody harm.

It's more about personal preference really. I personally don't want them any bigger and so do others. So unless there is a clear call for higher limits, I don't see a reason why we should change them.

Personally I like there being some empty space between the mini-profile content, such as the avatar, and the actual message.

Seeing as the decision around this is purely based on preference, there is no reason there shouldn't be a poll after which we can go with the majority vote. So I added a poll.

You got a week to vote... We can make it 2 weeks if you guys think it's too short.

If avatar size is what's really important to you on a forum, you're doing it wrong.

Avatars are just little images that express something about you (even if that thing is that you like random images as an avatar) that can be used by the other posters to identify you, something to make you unique. You should aim, however, for being known by your posts and the personality you put into them, not the avatar that sits next to them.

Larger (read: 150x150) avatars just take away from the post sitting next to them.

People arguing for increase: Could you give us an example of what you'd want to put in as an avatar that can't be expressed in 100x100 form? I'm just curious.

People arguing against increase: What is your massive attraction to blank white space? I'm just curious.

No attraction at all for blank spaces, which is why we don't want a bigger avatar, so there can be more posts visible in the screen.

Don't go there. There's no need to have an answer - as previously established it's entirely personal preference.
