I believe it's to help distinguish between Rebel and Imperial ships. From what I can see, Imperial ships shoot green, and Rebel ships shoot red.

And I think that by the Thrawn Campaign, the New Republic had begun constructing its own Imperial-class Star Destroyers.

Probably to differentiate, yeah.

But I don't think the NR ever built Imperial-class Star Destroyers. That would be a bad idea politically.

Well, yes.
Otherwise, it would be the Imperial Republic. Pretty much.

Not really. If it's not broke, don't try n' fix it. There'd be no point in the New Republic passing over an extremely successful & useful ship purely because of its name and previous portfolio (for want of a better word) - I know they used captured ones, but I have no idea if any others were actually constructed from scratch, post-Empire.

True, but they did have a lot of there on designs that could compete with an ISD.
I've never seen it mentioned if they built any, either. Has anybody else?

Actually, yes they did build their own Imperial-class Star Destroyers, and continue to do so through the Legacy Era. Some examples are the Elegos A'Kla, the Mon Mothma, and the Anakin Solo. Another possible New Republic-constructed one is the Rejuvenator, which made its first and last appearance at Helska IV at the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong war. The Imperial-class served effectively many times against the Yuuzhan Vong. In order for the Imperial-class to have had such an impact in that war, many had to have been constructed by then. At least two Imperial-class Star Destroyers that were under construction were destroyed by suicide coralskippers at the First Battle of Fondor.

The New Republic did attempt to begin construction of its own classes, namely the obvious Republic-class Star Destroyer, and the Nebula-class Star Destroyer, to try to steer away from the current negative image of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer, and the bulk of its fleets still consisted of Mon Calamari constructed ships. But the fact is, the Imperial-class was advanced, efficient, formidable, and already in construction at the point. The Kuat Drive Yards and other shipyards were probably mostly geared towards making the Imperial-class by the time the New Republic rolled around, as the Empire apparently constructed either 25,000, or 250,000 of them during its reign. The New Republic also constructed other Imperial-designed ships, such as the Victory-class, of which the Admiral Ackbar is an example.

Good point.
Now, I haven't read the books, but the Anakin Solo info I could find doesn't seem to indicate it was actually constructed by the NR, just where it came from.

It was constructed by the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, which rose from the ashes of the New Republic. I consider them basically the same thing, since the only thing that was really changed was the incorporation of separate galactic entities into its structure.

I was going to bring that up, but ran into computer problems. What really annoyed me was the Ackbar as Victory-class. The class was about 50 years old at the time, so I wonder why they used it. Also, they had a lot of ships besides mon cal and captured versions (New Class).

Good point.

Why would they give Caedus a captured ship when he was one of the most powerful people around.

Even if captured, an ISD is one of the most powerful ships around.

The Anakin Solo was a specially constructed Imperial-class Star Destroyer (I've seen it listed as both just an Imperial-class, and an Imperial II-class). It was made specifically for use by the Galactic Alliance Guard, being painted black (a la Singularity, and being equipped with a cloaking cone (Which, oddly, has never been used to the extent of my knowledge), and a gravity well generator.

If we went by Phoenix Rising stats, the Anakin Solo most resembles the Imperial III- or Imperial IV-class Star Destroyer by way of armaments (Long-range turbolasers, though it doesn't have the proton beam). I would personally put it into a class of its own. It's not the first New Republic/Galactic Alliance Imperial-class Star Destroyer to have a gravity well generator, but it is the first with a cloaking cone and concealed rooms/passageways, and a meditation chair for use by a Force-wielder. Perhaps is can be seen as the first and only Solo-class Star Destroyer?

In one thread, I think PR said that the Anakin Solo is what he based the mods' Imperial IV on.

He did. Still, it was almost certainly new-build, because of the production facilities under the alliance.
