This is from another thread:

Also, whilst I remember: what the hell's with the tech tree at present?

Why is it I am able to construct the likes of a Praetor-class as soon as a skirmish match starts, but I have to upgrade in order to construct a Victory-class or even much smaller, weaker frigates & corvettes?

It's not a complaint, merely a query. I'm not sure what the point behind it was. Surely, smaller --> bigger over time makes more sense? Anyone?

I was just curious why I get access to some pretty massive ships right at the start of a skirmish match.

Could someone please elaborate on the thought process regarding the tech tree at present? :p

Why do you people act so defensively?

It was a question, not a criticism.

I think its that way because no one has bothered to change it. The uints also seem to follow a chronological order.

Sorry, didn't realise it would look that way. I'm not meaning to come off as defensive at all. I'm just kinda direct in my opinions.
Besides, I seem to be the only one posting in reply to you, as I'm on throughout the day on my days off, I can reply faster than most. :p

the idea is that the ships for a balanced fleet are all available at the start of a skirm match, and upgrading allows better ships of all classes.

Each ship class basically has its own tree, which is in chronological order. You always start with the first ship, but have to research the later ones. At least that's the idea. Since we don't have every ship that ever was in-game, it's kind of imperfect.

What about complicating it a bit, as proposed earlier on, in other thread? Like to force rebels to use some Z95s before researching first XWings? Or to do the same with Imperial TIE Fighters and Interceptors? :p Enabling new type halfway through one class?

I would say only 1-2 ships in. It shouldn't take that long, as early on, it's better to research upgrades.
