I think the Purge is a great idea! :D Although I think their "God" should be a Balrog-sized colossus, except with white robes and it shoots light from its palms.

Stick to Starcraft.. ;)

Any factions that are direct copies from other games might be considered but probably will get ignored

I didn't make myself clear enough, sorry. I just meant one faction of super spammy units and some cool powers, one of uber strong units with tons of health but really expensive, and one with "normal" units with some cool powers.

Not copying the factions, just the balancing system, where units are drastically different. So every faction doesn't just have 2 swords, one archer, one spearmen, etc...

Meh, whatever :p Here's my faction

About the faction

Name of faction
Mount Eivien

History - Not required
Prisoners and murderers from the rest of the continent were traditionally given to Mount Eiven, to let the dark hand of nature see who should survive and who shouldn't. It was a way to reduce the costs of feeding prisoners, and absolved the consiouses of those who sentenced the prisoners, as they believed the God of the mountain would save any truly innocent man. For a long time, it didn't, but around 200 years, prisoners started finding caves to hide in, and food to catch, and even wood to heat fires. More and more began surviving.

Describe the themes
The "fashion" and design of the "architecture"
Units are heavily armored, with arms and armor provided for by trade with other realms. Each man may carry his own unique weapon, but if too poor, the queen and her forces provide weapons. The armor is spikey and very unorganic, with dark colors and resembling angmar units or sauron in appearing. All people who live in the land are on call for military

-Architecture
The architecture is likewise very unorganic, with sharp protrusions everywhere. The buildings are made of metal but coated with ice, for extra armor. Also very angmarish :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Building names and description
Castle
Frozen Fortress.
Expansions are ice catapult and arrow towers.

Barracks
Eiviet outpost. Recruits the basic miliatry units.

Resource production
Ice Mines. There are many minerals buried under the mountain, and frozen water itself is a very valuable resource to some parts of the land.

Defense Tower
Border Defense Tower. Fires arrows, can be garrisoned with two hordes.

Blacksmith/Lumber mill
Frozen Furnace. Provides better weapons and armor, also can upgrade ice mines and border towers.

Healing, Armour & exp bonus Statue
Hearth. In the frozen wastelands of Mount Eiviet, heat can be a wonderful thing. It can both heal them and cheer them up. Healing bonus, 50% and 50% attack

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unit names and Description
Worker/Builder
Engineer. Builds stuff. ;)

Soldier
Frozen Vanguard
Units wield both swords and spears (and small shields with both), dealing a mixture of slash and specialist damage. They can be upgraded with Ice Coated Armor, and pikes or longswords, which can each be upgraded which can then be ugpraded with dark steel. Since they lose their shields, they lose 15% of their armor with the pikes and longswords upgrade, but gain +40% attack in either slash or pierce, depending on which upgrade was chozen. The dark steel upgrade then adds another 50% attack bonus. Longswords also allow for small area of affect damage, and pikes allow for longer range attacks.

Archer
Watchmen of the mountain
Armed with standard shortbows, these watchmen are chosen for their excellent marksmenship. They can be upgraded with barbed arrows, Ice Coated Armor, and also with crossbows or longbows. Crossbows cause the attack speed/preattack delay of the archers to drop by 50%, but damage increases by 70%. Longbows increase the attack by 40%, and also increase range by 70%. Both crossbows and shortbows range is very short.

Elite unit
Eiviet Captain
Rally the troops - Movements speed +20%, Attack speed +10%, armor +20%, attack +20%, fear resistance
Berzerk - Basically lurtz's carnage, +attack speed, armor, and damage to self
Well placed blow/shot - Cripple
Hold your ground - Units cannot move for 20 seconds, but gain 80% armor and 80% attack

The captain comes with a random two of four possible powers, and also randomely with either a longbow or a longsword. Longbow captains are stealthed.

Sub Hero 1
Baen
Rank 1-Horn call - boromir horn, also gives own units +15% damage
Rank 2-Death blow - evil man CaH assasin power. Gets stronger by level.
Rank 5-Frenzy - Becomes uncontrollable for 20 seconds when activated, pursues any enemy, gains 150% damage, loses 25% armor. Causes fear in enemy units.
Rank 7-Iron Will - Baen gains 30% attack and 30% armor when fighting in red health.

An enourmous man originally in the captains, he has proven himself time and time again in combat, and is now the Queen's right hand. He carries an enourmous longsword that has been passed down for generations and can knockback oponents.

Sub Hero 2
Laekif
Rank 1-Leadership - Archers nearby Laekif have much better accuracy. All units have fear resistance.
Rank 2-Stealth - Laekif can stealth along with the rest of the longbow captains. Also allows watchmen nearby to stealth
Rank 4-Amazing shot - A strong shot with knockback and a small bit of AoE damage. Like that dwarf heroe's beast slayer in rotwk.
Rank 7-Fire a volley - Legolas's super arrow spraying power

Laekif is an emerging hero among the ranks of watchmen and captains. He have carried out many spying and ambush missions with success, and his kill count is greater than 300. More than that, he cares about his men, and has never left a man behind. His soldiers would follow him to the end.

Main Hero
Lady Mierth
Rank 1-Leadership - +50% armor, +100% damage, +300% experience, +10% movement(not attack speed), fear resistance
Rank 1-Dark Magic - Kharsh's life sucking power
Rank 3-Heir of Kings - passive, better armor, better stats overall
Rank 5-Royal bodyguard - 4 unselectable melee captains with no powers appear around Mierth, guarding her wherever she goes.
Rank 7-For the Queen - When she is in red health, units nearby gain 100% damage, and when she dies, it increases to 200% for 10 seconds.
Rank 10-Dark blades - When activated, she and nearby longswords and longsword captains become invisible, untargetable for 20 seconds, and gain 200% damage.

Queen of the mountain, some say her heart is as cold as the snowy realm in which she dwells. She fights with a standard sword and shield (and unarmored) until rank three, when she is becomes armored and fights with two blades. Even after the upgrade, she is much of a fighter, leading rather from behind and with her powers.

Champion (God)
Eivien
Spell list 1
Rank 1-Snowy Blast - Wizard blast with snow
Rank 2-Blast of cold - Freezes enemy units in ice, temporarily
Rank 4-Freeze over - Balrog's flame, but with ice :p
Rank 4-Flight - Flies to any location

Spell list 2
Rank 5-Speed of the God - +50% attack speed, +50% movement speed
Rank 6-Fury of the God - Death blow to any non god unit
Rank 8-Might of the God - Passive, two attacks instead of one. Basically he double punches instead of only one punch :p
Rank 10-Fury of the Mountain - Causes several hundred tons of snow to fall in an avalanche

Fearsome to behold, cold to even look at, Eivien is the most fearsome unit of the Mountain. A superb fighter, his powers serve mostly to augument his abilities. No idea what he should look like, I trust your creative genious ;)

you'll have to get back to me in about 3 because im having serious problems with my computer, but would it be possible to create a faction from a game and have a chance? i know earlier u said it would be considered, and only if u say, ill post it, but so far i have a lot more work to do, but i am going into as much depth as possible and trying to balance along the way, as well as putting something from everything into the faction.

if you would like to know, the faction is based on Final Fantasy IX, and its currently WIP (got it all writte down though ^^)

if its ok to post it, get back to me probs after chistmas  and ill post it - hope i can, im working hard on it

Keep up the great submissions guys, And you can post things from other games and like every other faction, will be revised. an example of factions the will be ditched are direct copies from other RTS game of factions that don't deserve to be here, like any and all of starcraft teams,

How ever if you tweak the idea of those factions a little and make it fit into the theme of WOTG it should be fine.if you want an example my faction submission is an ideal reference even if its not yet finished, Xmas has been busy for me so i haven't been working much on anything.

WIP

About the faction
The Lindrim, or Hidden People, have been lurking in the mountains for many centuries, and none have reported of their existence. However, they are still militant, for they fear the outside world. They are very strong fighters with high damage dealt, but have low defense.

Name of faction
Lindrim

History
A mixed group of humans and dwarves, the Lindrim went into hiding when the humans went to war against the dwarves, seeking riches, resources, and more land to expand their empire. The pacifists fled to the mountains to escape persecution, becoming experts in survival and camoflauge. Their first chieftain, a dwarf named Marak, was a master architect and designed many of their greatest cities. Although some were destroyed in the great cataclysm, the Lindrim are still numerous, and continue to train their young ones in the highest skills of fighting.

THEMES

-Units

They wear leather armor with grey cloaks made out of the fur of wolves. Most carry longbows (shortbows for the dwarves) or spears, but the chieftains carry swords made out of the iron that is rare in these mountains. Most of their spears and arrowheads are made of stone, which is more plentiful.

-Architecture

The Lindrim have survived for hundreds of years by living in caves, and thus their architecure is outwardly crude, but very strong and elaborate within.

A dwarf porter, carrying mining tools.

Soldier
Lindrim Spearmen
A camoflauged group of humans and dwarves, all carrying spears. They are strong against cavalry but weak against any melee attacks. They have high attack power but little armor, making them vulnerable to archers. However, they can move with ease over rough terrain, making up for their lack of defense.

Archer
Lindrim Hunters
A camoflauged group of humans and dwarves, all carrying bows. They have are very vulnerable to any attack, but they too can climb over rocks and scale cliffs.

Elite unit
Lindrim Longbowmen
Longshot
Withering Fire (Each arrow fired has meta impact and does triple damage for a short time.)
Lacking sufficient resources to make melee weapons for an entire army, the Lindrim depend more upon archers. These archers are the towering elite of the Lindrim army.

Sub Hero 1
Rathan
Mount
Human Chieftain (Leadership)
Ambush (Allows surrounding units to stealth while attacking for a short time.)
Blinding Blade (Melee attack which releases a light blast)
The leader of the human Lindrim, Rathan is one of the few Lindrim to possess a horse.

Sub Hero 2
Thanir
Weapon Toggle
Aimed Shot (single powerful ranged attack)
Hunter (Surrounding allies gain resources for each kill)
Survivalist (Thanir's stats double when he is under 30% health)
Rathan's cousin Thanir is one of the Lindrim's most skilled hunters, and a fine warrior.

Main Hero
Marak II
Great Delvings (Summons a Mine.)
Heavy Blow (Crippling strike)
Summon Allies
Lindrim Legacy (good leadership)
Earth Hammer (small earthquake)
Faultlines (Heavy damage to a building)
Named after the greatest chieftain of the Lindrim, Marak II is his predecessor's match in strength. He carries a double-headed axe made out of the finest steel, an heirloom of the old days when the Lindrim still posessed the finest of weapons.

Champion (God)
Gondobar
Spell list 1
Avalanche (Rockslide over a large area, effective against units)
Barrage (rocks fall from the sky in a small area, effective against single strong targets)
Earthquake (earthquake, effective against buildings)
Fires of the Core (a fault opens and spits forth fire. Effective against everything.)

Spell list 2
Heavenly Inspiration (leadership)
Refuge (increases health and armor of targeted allied building)
Mountain Walls (Summons a strong wall in targeted area)
Fear (Passive, enemy units cower in fear of Gondobar)

Gondobar, the god of the Lindrim, is a massive golem made out of mountain rocks. He is highly resistant to all forms of attack, but very susceptible to magic.

I believe it is an original world of fantasy, neither Middle Earth nor real Earth.

Also, since this is war of the gods, I think worship should be a large part of it, as it was in AoM. The spells, for instance, could be god powers that your god has granted you to use. It might be cool for you to be able to worship a specific minor god or demigod to unlock certain parts of your faction, like the age-advance system in AoM.

I like the idea behind them but personally, I'm a bit tired of Elves ;P

And btw, as for my merc faction, do u want a change in their appearance style or to get rid of the shootiness all together? I think guns add a nice flavor to the game since nearly every other ranged unit is just an archer...

Anyhow, another faction for you:

About the faction

The Sons of Calheirus are a fanatical, dangerous group of wizards who were banished from the kingdoms of man for unwittingly creating the first portal through which the Scourge entered the world. In their great sanctums, they continue their practice of sorcery and wield it with fearsome fury upon any who led to their downfall, be they Scourge or normal man, even with the powers of the Scourge itself. Their most hated enemies are the Purge, who refuse to relent in their hunt for the poor fools who unleashed the demons upon the world.

Name of faction
Sons of Calheirus

History - Not required
Calheirus, the greatest of sorcerers, was an ambitious man who was willing to gain power and knowledge at any cost, even his life. When many kingdoms and nations were still young, Xi tricked him into opening a portal for his minions with the promise of command over an army of immense power, that would end all wars and unite the kingdoms. When Calheirus and his followers saw what was unleashed, however, they were horrified and disgusted, as well as betrayed. In their indignation, they fought valiantly against the Scourge in order to redeem themselves, winning battle after battle and throwing themselves almost suicidally against the hordes until they at last reached the last stronghold they held: The Portal itself, which Calheirus destroyed after banishing Xi and his minions, but not before Xi could curse Calheirus with a plague that would kill him and many of his followers.

Describe the themes
The "fashion" and design of the "architecture"
-Units
Their units wear dark red robes and brass armor. Their banners are red and black and their units are very expensive.

-Architecture
The Sons fortify themselves well to keep out those who would hunt them down and gain retribution against them. Their structures are tall, stone, and rectangular (with rounded edges), and often adorned with statues and red-and-gold banners.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Building names and description
Castle
Pristine Sanctum

-Relics of the days before the Fatal Portal, they are well-maintained and are of somewhat brighter color than the other structures, and less ruined. They are built in the shape of a circle, surrounded with steps. The entrance has somewhat higher steps and has a statue of Calheirus on both sides. Basic characteristics are similar to other structures of the Sons.

Barracks

Sorcerers' Chambers

Resource production
Sacred Altar

Defense Tower
Obelisk of Light

Mirror tower, shoots yellow laser beams at people (like Istari Light). Low rate of fire but very, very high damage and a small Area-of-effect . Also has high vision and range. Better than most, if not all, other towers in the mod.

Blacksmith/Lumber mill
Sacred Library

Healing, Armour & exp bonus Statue
Sacred Altar; the Sons of Calheirus fight much more ferociously when fighting near an altar to their master.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unit names and Description
Worker/Builder
Hospitaller: Can slowly heal nearby units as well as build structures.

Soldier
Fanatics: Fight with two swords and are decently armored, but are incredibly damaging. Have the "Fury Like Lightning" ability, which adds even further to their attacks and makes them immune to fear and debuffs, at the cost of armor. When the ability is active, their attacks have lightning effects. Come in medium-sized hordes and wear brass armor, have dark capes, and have no helmets.

Archer
Sorcerers:

Men in dark robes with golden helmets and staffs with shiney orbs at the end that shoot red laser beams at people (again, like istari light). Like Obelisks, they do incredible damage but have a poor rate of fire. Range is good, but maybe not great.

While they are fairly slow, come in smaller hordes than fanatics, and aren't very well-armored, they also have a lightning-related ability, which basically casts "lightning sword" around them and reduces the attacks of those caught in the area. Very good for warding off enemies who try to close in on your slow, weak, sorcerers.

Elite unit
Retributors

-Everlasting Fury: Leadership; grants nearby units increased damage and area-of-effect.
-Fiery Wrath: Barrages an area in fireballs.
-Cut Down: Retributors' attacks gain an AoE and do knockback.

Retributors are veterans among the Sons who have shown unrelenting courage and anger in the face of the enemy and have thus been chosen as the vanguard of the Sons' war of vengeance.

They wear red clothing over golden chainmail and have gold helmets that cover their faces (like Sauron, but not evil) and their weapons are massive two-handed swords and they shoot fireballs out of their left hands when using the "Fiery Wrath" power.

They come in fives, can't be knocked down, move fairly slowly, and have very good armor.

Sub Hero 1

Verleano:

-Shining Blade: Verleano's sword glows yellow and he gains attack, armor, and rate-of-attack bonuses.

-A Moment of Peace: Verleano temporarily becomes immobile and gives the following effects: nearby units and buildings are healed and repaired at a fairly quick rate. Any dead units in nearby hordes are restored. Nearby friendly units and obelisks can't attack but do gain armor bonuses.

-Saintly Visage: Leadership; Nearby units and buildings gain armor and experience bonuses

-Mustn't Give Up: Nearby heroes' ability timers are recharged and the heroes themselves are healed; a bit like the "Restoration" power.

While the Sons of Calheirus have countless enemies, Verleano and his Hospitallers have shown that there are people who are greatful. Maintaining the fortifications of the Sons and healing their wounds, the Hospitallers have earned the trust and affection of the vengeful sorcerers and their leader is famous for his compassion and calmness, even in the heat of battle. He is a beacon of hope for the hopeless, and when the Sons are weary and defeated, they look to him for guidance.

In battle, he fights with a sword and wears white clothing over golden armor, and has a red cape. He doesn't wear a helmet and he has long hair.

Sub Hero 2
Gauron:

-Energy Pulse: A weak "Word of Power" w with red effects and a quick animation (no gathering light and shouting beforehand  ).

-Fiery Beacons: Sorcerers and Obelisks in the targeted area temporarily gain some extra fire damage in addition to their normal attacks (which would normally do magic damage and a bit of fire).

-Xi's Curse: Targets (You target a single unit with this, but it does small AoE) take a lot of damage and are poisoned.

-Mind War: Targeted area takes a lot of damage over time and any units caught in that area will be roughed up really bad and move slowly and be unable to cast abilities. The effects of the spell are useless against buildings; only units are affected

While Verleano is young and virbrant, Gauron is old, bitter, and wicked. He has survived the many years since being wounded in the Assault on the Portal through sorcery and miracles. He is older than Tantaeus but lacks Tantaeus' strength and trustworthyness, but none of his ferocity. Often scorned for the horrific spells he is willing to unleash, he nonetheless stands by Tantaeus' side as his eldest advisor and his talent in sorcery is legendary.

His main attack is to shoot lightning from his hands, which does knockback and has a very little aoe. He is mostly bald but has some messy white hair and he wears more ornament robes than the other Sons.

Main Hero
Tantaeus

-Chosen of Calheirus: Leadership; Nearby units gain experience, attack, and armor bonuses.

-Burn a Path: Like Wizard Blast, but with fire :p

-Menace: Like Aragorn's "Elendil" power, but without screaming "Elendil!!!"

-Piercing Vision: Like the "Vision of the Palantir" Power, but also weakens any enemies in the area

-Doombolt: A pulse of light explodes from a single target, doing extraordinary damage and probably killing it

-Doomstorm: Barrages the area around Tantaeus with colorful lightning

Tantaeus is fearless, merciless, and a strong and honorable man, and one of the two surviving Sons from the Assault on the Portal; the rest suffered greatly from wounds inflicted by Xi and soon died, while Tantaeus and Gauron barely survived, driven by hatred and by their loyalty for Calheirus. Of the two, it would be Tantaeus who would lead and while he wasn't as powerful a sorcerer as Gauron, he has the leadership and toughness needed to lead the Sons to victory against those who denied them penance. However, there are times when even Tantaeus is unable to stand against his enemies and in such times, they concentrate their power to summon the greatest of sorcerers to their aid, back from the dead.

Champion (God)
Calheirus
Spell list 1

-Martyred Army: Summons some hordes of Martyrs, Sons who died during the Assault on the Portal. As units, Martyrs are completely immune to both positive and negetive leadership and fear powers and are very fast, do high damage, have very good armor, but only last a while and are vulnerable to magic attacks. They fight in melee with magical attacks and have bright auras.

-Bombardment from the Heavens: Red laser beams come down from the sky, obliterating a targeted area and burning the crap out of it. It's like the "Orbital Bombardment" ability from DoW, but better.

-Sorrow of the Betrayed: Temporarily, any enemies near Calheirus will freeze in terror and anguish.

-Calheirian Portal: Summons a Calheirian Portal, which works like a Dwarven mine, only any of ur units can go through, holds more units, and has a lot more armor.

Spell list 2

-Godslayer: kill an enemy god with lightning

-Redemption: All friendly units in the targeted area are completely healed and any dead men in hordes are replaced. Targeted units also temporarily gain fear resistance and armor bonuses.

-Lord of Sorcery: A draft-like power that gives all ur units and heroes on the map increased magical damage and protection against magic damage.

-Tear Down the Walls: Destroys structures in the targeted area and knocks down enemy units with earthquake-like effects.

Shoots red lightning out of his hands as his basic attack and has angry glowing eyes and is generally very stormy in appearance.

-Reveal: Like the "vision of the palantir" power

-Hospitality: Slowly heals and repairs everything in the targeted area

-Hallowed Ground: Like Tainted Land or Elven Wood, but makes an area stone/shiney

Row 2 (2nd row)

-Zealous Devotion: like the "Dwarven Riches" ability, only the altars also gain increased bonuses towards nearby units

-Calheirian Portal: Summons a Calheirian Portal

-Spellbreaker: Enemies in the targeted area restart all their power timers

-Lies and Secrecy: Targeted units become permanently stealthed, except when detectors are around
Row 3 (2nd last row)

-Energy Storm: Targeted area is quickly bombarded in energy pulses that shoot out electricity when they burst

-Tortured Spirits: Summons 4 Tortured Spirits, which look like Karsh and shoot lightning out of their hands. They're fast, do great damage, and weaken nearby enemies and their attacks also do poison damage.

-Atrocity: Summons a scary statue covered in corpses on the targeted area that sends enemies fleeing in terror whenever they go near

Row 4 (last 2 spells)
Furious Assault: All ur units on the map temporarily become resistant to fear, gain great armor bonuses, and become immune to trampling/being knocked down.

Death's Hand: Bombards an area with dark, green projectiles (like the Sorcerers' "Rain of Corpses" ability, or whatever it's called) that do enormous damage to everything (probably killing everything) and leaves the area poisoned for a little while, so that any units walking where Death's Hand struck will be poisoned.

Not bad... If you're tired of elves and everyone else is too, I can change them to humans... in fact, I think I will, and rearrange their history a bit.

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

I had the meaning of life in my signature, but it exceeded the character limit.

WIP

About the faction
Basically a spam faction. Lots of units and buildings that are cheap. They have a hive, and breed there. The Juroka are buglike-creatures with large eyes.

Name of faction

Juroka

History - Not required
<History>

Describe the themes

The "fashion" and design of the "architecture"
-Units
The Juroka are small creatures who are white-skinned and have buglike eyes. They are semi-humanoid but have thin, short limbs and long, curved teeth (not too long: likely not noticeable on the models. Just think of the teeth of those Pau'ans from starwars). They wear tattered clothing and hides of desert animals. Their weapons are crude, and of the stabbing type, not slashing swords.

-Architecture
The buildings are muddy clay structures, kind of like termite hills. Look at pictures of Tatooine for examples.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Building names and description

Castle
Nest
-This is a sort of dome of mud with little windows and holes in it. It is well maintained and has various ledges and pillars on and around it, which sort of meld into it.

Barracks

Juroka Pit
-This is basically a rough mud structure that Juroka are equipped in. It looks somewhat like at Orc pit, but a lighter, sandy color and more round. Quite similar to an Uruk pit, actually, but a muddy color.

Resource production
Hunting Excavation
-This is a muddy structure with a sandy ring around it. It acts as a tunnel, too, like the Goblins and Dwarves.

Defense Tower
Sentry Tower
-A rough, muddy tower with holes in the top where darts are thrown from.

Blacksmith/Lumber mill
Wood Camp
-Mud storehouse filled with logs. Juroka eat wood, BTW.

Healing, Armour & exp bonus Statue
Shaman Hut
-A mud hut with a Healing Shaman by the door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unit names and Description

Worker/Builder
Juroka Worker
-Small Juroka with hand-tool.

Soldier

Juroka Soldier
-Lazy fighter, very week and cheap. Uses a short spear as a weapon. Can eat trees to heal.

Archer
Juroka Darter
-Juroka that throws darts at the enemy. Can eat trees to heal.

Elite unit

Juroka Royal Guard
Charge Attack (Gain in speed and power as attacks a unit)
Defensive Position (Gain +%100 armor, +%50 damage, -%25 speed temporarily)

Larger Juroka with Long Spears. They have rough spines on their forearms.

Yes, I thought it would fit in nicely. Any ideas for heroes and spells?

Maybe a bug swarm spell one that summons a mass horde of tiny insects that kill enemy units

Considered making them more bug like? at the moment they sound like those pygmy guys from the mummy with the scorpion king

Yoda, I read your faction fully instead of skimming over the details and your history and that doesnt match up, what im saying are your soldiers and units actually humans or something? what I'm imagining is that there some sort of icicle creatures from some sort of curse or magic.
