That's right, DLotS has finally taken the risk of moving me up, so let's get one thing clear.
Caspa is no more. I retired him a while ago, so don't bother waiting for any over-inflated flamed or posts so entertaining and extravagant that you need a dictionary and thesaurus to translate them. No more will you feel the need to go "ZOMG Caspa didn't flame a new member". Caspa is gone, get over it. Oh, and before I get any smart-arsed comments about why I name this thread "Caspa/Lurker 101 is now in the staff", it's merely an identifier for those who don't know I changed name and online persona.
Now then, onto what this rank and name change means to you. Simply put, as a member of staff, I will be leading by example. More friendly welcoming post for newcomers and more constructive posts elsewhere. There will also be a lot more active moderation. If a thread goes too far off topic, it will be pruned. I'll either delete posts of split the topic, pending best judgement. If a member gets out of line, he will be delt with. If you have any complaints, take them to DLotS because I won't care. If any of you feel a specific section of the board needs more attention or you have a specific complaint that isn't "waa waa you deleted my post waa waa" or something equally tedious, then message me and I'll get on it as soon as I can.

Questions or concerns? Get them out now

Exactly where on the network do you possess moderator powers? Are you confined to certain sections, or are you considered a global moderator?

He is a global moderator, so he can moderate everywhere. However, he will not interfere with the moderation of division forums (e.g. T3A) provided there is any. His job is to keep the central forums such as this one, Open Topic, etc. clean and friendly.

I am confident that he will do a good job and fill up the slight moderating void we've had in the past. If you think he went too far, sort it out with him, as I'm sure he will listen to reasonable and justified complaints. Only if you think he does not take you seriously, send me a PM and I shall review the situation.

If a thread goes too far off topic, it will be pruned.

If it's a live thread with some bad off-topicness, then I agree.
However, if a thread is dead anyway, and it turns into a somewhat funny or interesting converstation, I'd say leave it be.

I think this is what every sensible moderator intends to do anyway, but just saying..

Rather ironic, considering he was one of those who used to fill it up with junk.

At any rate, you answered my question. He's not really the person I would have picked, based on his previous actions. But I'll reserve any judgement on his moderating ability till I've seen him in action, and I'll respect your decision, DLotS.

And if you do act like the moderator you intend to be, then I'll have a great deal of respect for you, Lurker.

Nope. If it goes too far off topic, it will be pruned, regardless of content. If it's nonsensical gibberish (see most of medalmonkeys posts for an example), then those posts will be deleted. If the posts are entertaining or useful, they'll be split to a new thread, keeping the original thread open for its intended use.

And yet, hypocritically, I won't tolerate anyone trying to be the next Caspa. That's the last thing the board needs right now, and being fully honest, it shouldn't have been tolerated back when it was my time.

You should read the Forum Guidelines :p

Revora allows topics to develop and envolve, so don't worry about strictly keeping on topic

Heh, that part of TOPICS and FREE are the last of what remains of my 6 forum morals. The morals that used to make this forum unique from every other forum i've ever seen. Of all the things i miss about Revora, it's those i miss the most :p

Congrats 'Lurker'! :p I think DLotS picked the right one for the job. Soone who doesn't run away from a fight scared shitless, versed in phreak-language, ear to the ground, capable of dividing spam from barely-spam from constructive spam. I am already looking forward seeing you in action! :p

Convenient of you to paraphrase the guidelines in a way which argues your right to spam. Did you even bother reading the full thing or just what looks good for you. I'll paraphrase a bit more of it for you, just so you understand.

TOPICS ~ Revora also allows topics to develop and envolve, so don't worry about strictly keeping on topic, as long as its slightly relevant or related it is fine to post.

SPAM - Please keep a spam to the minimum, we have a Spam Factory for anything unsuitable for other forums.

Does that make it a little clearer for you? ;)

Ah, a history lesson :shiftee:

Board Info.

Ranks: The more you post the higher your rank (gibberish under your name) becomes. When you have a very hight rank you can select a custom peice of text to go under your name. Another way to get a custom rank is to win one.

Board: Origin Forums uses Invision Power Board. IPB is free and requires PHP+MySQL.

Warnings: Origin forums prides it's self on being an open area for all discussion. Unlike the rest of the internet, we don't like closing topics. Instead we warn abbucive members.

Rules:

FLAMES - Do not be abbucive. Do not post anything that might lower the happy tone of the board.

TRUTH - Do not lie. Do not claim other peoples work or ideas as your own.

FREE - Other than the above, we beleve in freedom of speech. Feel free to say what you like.

SIZE - Do not have a sig over 450pix in width or 100pix in height. If it animates it must not be over 25k in file size.

OPEN - Do not worry about staying 'on-topic'. Topics here are allowed to evolve to new discussions. Telling someone to stay on topic will get you slapped by a fish.

lol, back when:
- IPB was free
- no one was allowed to lower the happy tone
- you got slapped by a fish for telling people to stay on topic
- max sig height was 100px

Could've sworn I read that this morning, and not just now...

Anyway, I'm glad to see a bit of seriousness introduced to the staff and whatnot. Glad to have you with us, Caspa (sarcasm intended :shiftee:) Lurker.

Talk to the higher-ups about that. If there's a slot to be filled and they believe you'd be the right man for the job, then it's possible. Just remember that there's probably always gonna be at least another 10 others crazy enough to actually want an admin slot at any one time.

Oh how the times have changed :shiftee:

You did, before I split the topic to here for obvious reasons. For some reason, D was kind enough to repost his post back here again.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Just keep in mind that I am fresh to this so a few mistakes will be made along the way.

Wow! you must do some serious ass kissing! I have been here for years and haven't been asked if I would be willing to help. I would like to consider my self as a RA2/YR titan around here and most other RA2 places I go to, and I haven't been ask to help out in the Ra2 area. Maybe its because I'm just not as offensive as others are, I guess I should try to stick out more.

You don't need to ass kiss anyone. You need to ask. In your specific case, we know your graphic skills are über... specially 3D. And.. YR Argentina is needing some activity. You just need to talk to the right people (I.e.: Mig Eater for any specific CnC Guild position, NightHawk for CnC3 and DLotS for Revora).

Maybe MadHQ does not want to be typecast as C&C, maybe he wants to do wider things. Or maybe not.
