That has just about every saber sound imaginable
It's good drogoth, but like ed said, I think we're going for more of the bfme1 style look.

I wonder if it's possible to hide the actual saber when they are idle, and to unhide it when you order them to attack something...

As far as i know, that mod has come to a halt, for now. Possibly you can cooperate somehow, eh?

As for the mock up, this is only a very basic idea just to show you the types of backgrounds we will be using, I used a composite of two photo's and brought them together to make Anakin or Coruscant, of course it'd make more sense to have a Tatooine background given it was the place of his birth but I'm think stuff along those lines. The main thing to remember is that it does not have to look anything like LOTR's ones.

Though I still see some activity in the Galaxy at War staff forums sometimes...maybe it's not completely dead
Tijil's Yoda and Grievous animations were godly.
Edit: Here's some updated map shots
Ignore the copied spire things in the corner. I noticed I had made it outside the border so I used ea's copy texture tool to move another one inside

Myself and Yoda have both filled out power charts and health charts to give us an indication of stats and what power goes with who etc (basically because we want each hero/unit to specialise so that they become a necessary part of strategy, I think it migh bet interesting to give the survey chart to the community and let those who are interested fill it out to see if we can reach a happy medium as regards the characters - is that something you guys would be interested in? If it is I'll happily PM the word doc and you can fill it out just let me know.
Update: Here's some pics
Hope that's enough to tide you over. I'll include close up shots tomorrow, using RJ cam if I can get them to work on an RJ map.

2d Space battles are possible in a way. Check out LOTR in Space maps on MEV. You can make part or all of the terrain invisible, and then you can place glowing objects below groundlevel to look like stars.
Terrain cannot have alpha - so you can't make it invisible. See my thread in the team chamber with regards as to how to fake space in BfME II

I am thinking you should maybe contact Master Windu for his work on Galaxy At War, a CnC3-mod that was originally a BfMe-mod. TiJiL also did some outstanding animation/modelling for this, just check out his avatar.
As far as i know, that mod has come to a halt, for now. Possibly you can cooperate somehow, eh?
The work is still going, slowly
I was going to pm lord of gifts in a few days when we had some more work to show, I guess I'll shoot for them too
Though I still see some activity in the Galaxy at War staff forums sometimes...maybe it's not completely dead

Well, I don't think that you'll be able to join LoG, but try...
GaW is still active indeed, not dead, with all the amazing stuff that is behind this mod.. it cannot be dead
About the animations, you have seen nothing
For the moment the GaW team doesn't know on which game his mod will be based, the leader Master Windu can't anymore give times to this mod, for the moment. All the stuff is made by TiJiL, he is just amazing you know!
So contact MW or TiJiL, I can't speak for them, just keep in mind that the team choosed to not use bfme2 engine for this mod.

Tip for good photo-based palentirs: chest up, space above the head, centralish, no other characters in background. It's often a good idea to use the burn tool in photoshop to make the background slightly darker if it stands out too much.
Those in-game screens are brilliant
@ Matias - appearing/disappearing lightsabers is very much possible. For every animation, you just choose to hide the blade subobject (see Gimli's code for an example of this, his code hides the throwing axe).
Another tip, there are resources on the web where you can download free models (usually in .max format). As SW is so popular, there may be useful stuff floating around (may be high poly though).

@ambershee - yes you can. You can paint the terrain invisible in Worldbuilder. It's very easy to do.
