I'm just binding a battle droid and edited some anims so that it fires and recoils but does not reload. Nice work but I feel we are going to be stepping away from the LOTR feel and into more Star Wars territory so we'll probably be scrapping the palantir backgrounds for Star Wars images, I'll do a mockup and show you what I mean.

That has just about every saber sound imaginable :shiftee:

It's good drogoth, but like ed said, I think we're going for more of the bfme1 style look.

Goodie.

I wonder if it's possible to hide the actual saber when they are idle, and to unhide it when you order them to attack something...

Either Ed or Rob said it was possible somehow and went into something complex with something or another and subobjects...so yeah, I guess it can be done :shiftee:

I am thinking you should maybe contact Master Windu for his work on Galaxy At War, a CnC3-mod that was originally a BfMe-mod. TiJiL also did some outstanding animation/modelling for this, just check out his avatar. :shiftee:
As far as i know, that mod has come to a halt, for now. Possibly you can cooperate somehow, eh?

Oh yes, that is certainly a good idea. Windu is a great guy, I'm sure he'd be willing to help out.

A wealth of questions here, ya it should be possible to add saber sounds, if they can add clanking sounds to swords and stuff then I don't why a saber can make that whirring sound.

As for the mock up, this is only a very basic idea just to show you the types of backgrounds we will be using, I used a composite of two photo's and brought them together to make Anakin or Coruscant, of course it'd make more sense to have a Tatooine background given it was the place of his birth but I'm think stuff along those lines. The main thing to remember is that it does not have to look anything like LOTR's ones.

Though I still see some activity in the Galaxy at War staff forums sometimes...maybe it's not completely dead ;)

Tijil's Yoda and Grievous animations were godly.

Edit: Here's some updated map shots

Ignore the copied spire things in the corner. I noticed I had made it outside the border so I used ea's copy texture tool to move another one inside ;)

yoda what should i use for the backgrounds? If you find one please give a link so i can use it. Hey Ed i am using 2plays tutorial so should it be the same except for the background? should it be the same background thingy for all of them or different ones (different ones would be hard) how can you get it to look like the bfme2 thingys like i made it on top? Instead of the parchment how about Coruscant or the Senate (ideas). If you can have a base background like the bfme2 that would be great. But do you code something or is it the graphics? I will try my favorite character Obi-Wan Kenobi tommorow or wednesday.

PS yoda am i part of the team? :shiftee:
oh yeah ed i will use that background of coruscant you used. i found it on google images and will use it for obi-wan!

How is anakin? i know i could have done better but i wanted him to have as much hair as possible i might edit him soon.

We're still doing drawing room stuff atm, playing around moreso than anything else. I'm doing alot of messing around with codes tonight to see what we can do, though it's apparent that this game would be quite capable of doing what we need it to. The images need to be square btw and we're not formulating a team as such yet until we know what direction we're taking and until we have something more than models to announce....

Myself and Yoda have both filled out power charts and health charts to give us an indication of stats and what power goes with who etc (basically because we want each hero/unit to specialise so that they become a necessary part of strategy, I think it migh bet interesting to give the survey chart to the community and let those who are interested fill it out to see if we can reach a happy medium as regards the characters - is that something you guys would be interested in? If it is I'll happily PM the word doc and you can fill it out just let me know.

Update: Here's some pics

Hope that's enough to tide you over. I'll include close up shots tomorrow, using RJ cam if I can get them to work on an RJ map.

Looking great... say, you reckon it'll be possible to have the typical lightsaber trails, you know, like when they slash and you see a trail... that would be great.

2d Space battles are possible in a way. Check out LOTR in Space maps on MEV. You can make part or all of the terrain invisible, and then you can place glowing objects below groundlevel to look like stars.

Terrain cannot have alpha - so you can't make it invisible. See my thread in the team chamber with regards as to how to fake space in BfME II :p

Well, I don't think that you'll be able to join LoG, but try...
GaW is still active indeed, not dead, with all the amazing stuff that is behind this mod.. it cannot be dead :p
About the animations, you have seen nothing :p

For the moment the GaW team doesn't know on which game his mod will be based, the leader Master Windu can't anymore give times to this mod, for the moment. All the stuff is made by TiJiL, he is just amazing you know!

So contact MW or TiJiL, I can't speak for them, just keep in mind that the team choosed to not use bfme2 engine for this mod.

That top palentir is awful. You need to do more than paste a image on top of a (out-of-place) background.

Tip for good photo-based palentirs: chest up, space above the head, centralish, no other characters in background. It's often a good idea to use the burn tool in photoshop to make the background slightly darker if it stands out too much.

Those in-game screens are brilliant :p

@ Matias - appearing/disappearing lightsabers is very much possible. For every animation, you just choose to hide the blade subobject (see Gimli's code for an example of this, his code hides the throwing axe).

Another tip, there are resources on the web where you can download free models (usually in .max format). As SW is so popular, there may be useful stuff floating around (may be high poly though).
http://www.google.co...lient=firefox-a

@ambershee - yes you can. You can paint the terrain invisible in Worldbuilder. It's very easy to do.
