The Mountain

I wrote this for English class, and my teacher really liked it. I'm still on the fence, but she wants me to submit it for the school's creativity publication.




=== The Mountain ===

Away from the world – 
the hustle, bustle, rushing whooshes
of society – is the mountain.
It stands like a massive beast,
a motionless monument made
many millennia ago.

A testament to nature’s defiance,
untamed by the concrete jungles.
a last vestige,
but it is mine.

And as I stand upon its peak
looking down at the world
rushing past me,
I feel the breeze caress my face and try.

But my wings are missing
and like a flightless bird,
I realize a rise in the ground is
my escape
and in conquering the mountain
I have let nature win;
no more than a man
realizing his
Nature.
