Could we?

We certainly could, and now shall.

We are now declaring this writing competition begun. The theme is 'isolation/separation' (they go together pretty well, but you only need to use one of them) and the limit is 1500 words, with a 5% margin of error (that means absolute limit of 1575 words, but it can be as short as you like). The closing date and time will be Saturday 2nd May at 00:00 British Summer Time. If anyone wants to say what that is in American time, feel free. Good luck, participants. ;)

The judges will be Vortigern (me), True Lord of Chaos (whose post I am editing) and an external third judge in order to avoid bias, unintentional or otherwise. Oh, and you are not allowed to use anything that has already been posted on Revora. Sorry. :)

EDIT: Well, the whole thing's closed now. We'll get back to you soon, by which I mean when TLC replies to any of the PMs I've sent him. :crazed:

Hello everyone. I am back.

I certainly don't see why not! Funnily enough I was just thinking of getting some competitions and such going. We can have a Revora version of NaNoWriMo with a winner, etc.
I shall definitely have a chat with whoever runs the writing and creativity area (I don't know myself yet :crazed: ) about this. I might even compete as long as it doesn't affect my uni work :)

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

I had the meaning of life in my signature, but it exceeded the character limit.

Then I guess I'll have to throw the rest of my unfinished work in.

Fiction as in the genre of fiction or as in fictional stories?

Yes, there is a very big difference.

Hooray! I'm back from my overnight trip which I forgot to announce and would happily endorse a writing competition. Although I feel a couple of restrictions might be in order, simply because different styles, topics, intents and all sorts make different pieces of writing very difficult to compare. What say we have a limit of 1500 words and a theme of.... any preferences? I'm going to suggest 'separation' as a theme. It sounds nice and artsy and has plenty of potential for pretty much any aspect of whatever you want to write about. However, other suggestions are fine.

TLC, as this was your suggestion, I hereby invite you to join me in judging this competition. I will also find a third external judge so as to rule out the possibility of bias and favouritism.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

I'd like to suggest, along your lines, Vort, "isolation" as the theme.

5% over before we start penalising, that's standard. Any further suggestions for theme?

Alright, I'll judge, seeing as I'm the contest cooridinator :good:
My submission wouldn't work for 'seperation.'

Do we really need a 'theme'? Why not judge on things like grammar, originality, and vocabulary, among others?

A theme makes it so that you can't like a story more based on it's genre.

So don't judge on the genre, judge on the actual writing ability.

You'll still like it more if it's your genre, and that affects the judging.

I'm assuming that the judges will be judging on grammar, originality, and vocabulary, among others, AND your ability to write to the theme.

Obviously a well-written piece is a well-written piece, regardless of whether it's to the theme or not; it's more of a challenge to write to a theme is all.
