Back to elven siege.

I hope to have a new siege-type system. I want units to be able to cut down trees and carry them around as rams... Not sure exactly how it will work yet but it will be more realistic and add another purpose for trees.

At any rate, this will be available for all factions except elves.

In general, rams will be the main siege weapon of the game. Some other siege weapons, like ladders and mines, which were mentioned in the books, will be kept also. Catapults and Ballista will probably go, though, with the possible exception of Fortress catapults (such as in Minas Tirith,) and other rock-throwing creatures, like Ents and Trolls.

Mines and Ladders (and maybe Mordor's towers) will be included as normal units. Ladders might be crafted on site but I don't think that would work very well. These will all only be available on fortress maps (making the ram the only siege weapon on normal maps).

Now I plan on making the Ents strictly summons, available to Men and Elves (and possibly Dwarves, though unlikely,) but I want some siege available for all factions without summoning. This puts Elves in a tight spot.

Here are my options from what I see:

1. Forget Evlen siege and make them rely on Ent summoning (unlikely)
2. Add Spellcaster siege units like in RJ-RotWK
3. Make Elves able to cut down trees for rams (unlikely)
4. Use some other siege weapon (suggestions, please)

What do you think of "Enemy of the Dark Lord" that kills Sauron, and would be a lvl 10 power, but you need much more xp to get Gandalf to lvl 10 then now. It requires also Gandalf the White. After about 20 seconds after using, Gandalf dies, because he used all his power to destroy Sauron.

Or, "Olorin's Grace", which would be like Heal, but it restores 2 fallen soldiers, and it heals 100% health, and with a bigger radius, something like Arrow Volley, cannot cast on Gandalf himself.

Or, "The Maia's Wrath", it gives Gandalf +100% armor value vs everything, +250% attack power, +300 damage with his powers, +100% resist to fear to nearby units. Would have a long recharge time.

I hope you like my ideas. ;)

O, what do you mean with "Flash", is that a spell with fireworks?

"Fireworks Dragon," which scares away all hobbits in a very large radius. ;)

"Enemy of the Dark Lord" just doesn't work for me.

This is for RotWK, btw. You seem to be picturing BFME1 (such as heal being smaller than arrow volley.) but I'd probably still have it around the size of arrow volley, maybe a tad smaller. I've actually made the heal radius smaller than default, already.

Flash is a spell from something in the hobbit. It's not fireworks. In the cave at the doorstep of Goblin-town, he made a flash of blue light and several Goblins died. It should do enough damage to kill a Goblin, I'd say. In practice, it's a mini Word of Power without knockback.

I don't really like specialty spells much. Especially when it's an anti-Ring Hero power. It would be rather useless if Ring Heroes was turned off (as I have it most the time, for myself,) or if they never got Sauron. I don't think Gandalf could kill Sauron with the Ring, though, even if he used all his power. I'm trying to be as accurate as possible to the books (and films, secondly,) so I think I'll leave that one out.

I don't know about the heal being accurate. In the RotK, Gandalf didn't use any healing magic in the House(s) of Healing. He was rushing them to get Athelas, so I'd say he probably didn't have the ability to heal.

Maia's wrath sounds great. I didn't think of having a self-buff spell. That would be a great addition to him. But at what level...? Generally, it would be as strong as Blade Master and be at an early level like that, but since I already have so many earlier spells, I'll probably make it something like level 6, with Istari Light at maybe 8.

If I made a Shire mod, it would have a version of Gandalf with Firework and Smoking spells  . They would also have a Sackville-Baggins Battering Ram; When everyone was harassing him at Bag-End the day after the birthday party, he said to Merry "Lock up and don't open up to anyone, even if the bring a battering ram." It would be a comedy-mod, of course.

Another note; I've made shadowfax not a Gandalf The White only power. Actually, it's BFME2 so there isn't even a Gandalf the white upgrade. I'd love to add it back in, though, so Another, high-level spell should probably be only for Gandalf the White. Istari light, maybe, or a new spell.
Greetings, community.

I'm planning on renaming Dread Visage to Black Breath. I don't know about a power to cancel that, though... As I said, I'm not a big fan of specialist powers.

I'll use bubble shield, though.

So I'm thinking:

Flash (level 1)
Leadership (Level 4)
Shadowfax (Level 5)
Word of Power (Level 10)

For sure. Then we can add:

Fireball
Wizard Blast
Lightning Sword
Bubble Shield
Istari Light
The Maia's Wrath*

*I don't know if it's needed with Bubble Shield added; That's two self-buff powers.

If Maia's Wrath is kept, that's ten powers exactly. A perfect number. He doesn't really need any more, but the order needs to be decided.

I'm thinking:

Flash (level 1)
Fireball (level 2)
Bubble Shield (Level 3)
Lightning Sword (Level 3)
Leadership (Level 4)
Shadowfax (Level 5)
Wizard Blast (Level 6)
Maia's Wrath (Level 7)
Istari Light (Level 8)
Word of Power (Level 10)

They are pretty balanced. Wizard blast will have to be made way stronger, though. There is no level 9 power, but that's cool, because then you have to level two levels to "earn" Word of Power. The Bubble Shield and Lightning Sword are together because they are used at the same time, really.

I'd love to have another fire power, though. Maybe Maia's Wrath could make his sword burst into white flame, or something.

I don't know exactly what to do with Wizard Blast to make it worthy of a level six spot. Increase the range, I guess, but still. It will have a very large range, I guess.

The White Rider-when activated while mounted, he can instill terror, like cloudbreak spell. He shines really bright and people in a radius around him can't move.

Hmmm... There is a part the heavens (or something like that,) that i've seen command buttons for. I might have a look at it and see what EA was doing.

YAY! You really used my idea

And, you can maybe add Bubble Shield to Maia's Wrath, because extra armor vs. everthing, you know, a shield works well.

I think i'll keep them separate, actually. I've coded them in. Bubble shield is based on Hero-Mode, like Blade Master and Slayer... Wrath is based on Knife Fighter, because it uses a different weapon that adds magic and flame damage. It currently just uses Blade Master FX in the attribute modifier, but eventually I'll add some flame to the sword for it.

Well, I'm having a little trouble with the bubble. For some reason, it automatically turns on when Gandalf is it. It still follows all the recharge time rules and everything, though, so I'll probably just lose the commandbutton and set it up like in BFME1, so it is auto. This will allow Maia's Wrath to move into it's place and The White Rider to take the higher-end spot; The White rider will be a better version of Glorfindel's Windrider. Gandalf the White and Mounted only.

I think it'd be pretty easy to fix the bubble, but I like it better this way, anyway.

Anyone got any Dwarven Ring Hero ideas? I was thinking Either Beorn or Radagast.

How accurate would it be to use Beorn? Do you think he's strong enough to wield the Ring? Would he be the best option.

Honestly, I think Beorn fits with the Dwarves better but might not be able to use the Ring. Radagast probably wouldn't fit with the Dwarves as well but could use it.

Um... I don't think so.

There was no Durin at the time of WotR. What makes him powerful enough to use the ring?

Doesn't seem to make much sense... :thumbsdownsmiley:

This isn't a First Age mod, BTW.

Ah... I thought you were using the EA system of "Tolkien mentioned it, so toss it in!" :thumbsdownsmiley:

Beorn was dead by the time the War of the Ring rolled around, so that leaves Radagast as your only option. Really, he wouldn't be too concerned about the ring anyway, since he cared more about birds and beasts than people.

I'm pretty sure the ring would have power over all the wizards, though.

Beorn is still an option, though. I said War of the Ring, but I'm really going from about the time of The Hobbit through the end of the Third Age. Really from when Sauron shows up in Mirkwood until the destruction of the one ring.

It would still make more sense to not use him, though. I'm leaning towards Radagast.

Plus, I don't think there are enough Bear Anims. It'd be easier to use Radagast.
