And then there's one more under appreciated thing about Supreme Commander: The Engine

Even if you hate the game, the engine is superb in Supreme Commander. The amount of mods you could hypothetically make with it are astonishing, even total conversion mods. Damn, the possibilities. And to think people are still modding that piece of shit Generals, with it's horrid sage engine. *coughShockwavecough*. What a waste of time. Supcom is where it's at.

Not this tired argument again. Nobody fucking cares.

If you want to play and mod, SupCom, go fucking do it and shut up already. We get it, you're blowing GPG's CEO for cash.

Not this tired argument again. Nobody fucking cares.

I've never even used this argument before.

And wow, I like a video game. So I automatically am in denial or something. There is nothing wrong with Supcom, it's a good game. And it fits my play style. So apparently I'm sucking GPG.net's dick for liking it and defending it...yeah.

I guess that means me, Nertea, and possibly Ash are sucking GPG.net's dick. Okay faggot, sure.

Also completely ignore everything else I said because you're elitist and in denial. Completely ignore my points about all six fucking C&C games being rehashed which renders you a hypocrite. Okay, fine. Argument over. Fuck it. You're dense.

I didn't say you're the first to ever mention it. You're hardly the first.

And wow, I like a video game. So I automatically am in denial or something. There is nothing wrong with Supcom, it's a good game. And it fits my play style. So apparently I'm sucking GPG.net's dick for liking it and defending it...yeah.

I don't care if you like it. It's your immediate dismissal of my opinion and your rampant fanboyism that places GPG's dick right into your mouth. You foam at mouth at the very mention of someone dissing your favoritest game. Get the hell over it.

I guess that means me, Nertea, and possibly Ash are sucking GPG.net's dick. Okay faggot, sure.

Incorrect. They're not all up in arms over an opinion about a fucking PC game.

Also completely ignore everything else I said because you're elitist and in denial. Completely ignore my points about all six fucking C&C games being rehashed which renders you a hypocrite. Okay, fine. Argument over. Fuck it. You're dense.

I mean, oh em gee. I don't like a game and prefer something else over it. Yes, I am so elitist and in denial. I said why I dislike it and you go off on some wild tangent about how I'm all wrong and stupid for not liking it; I've never said anything negative about you liking it. So, why don't you just fuck off already, you goddamn buffoon. You contribute nothing but fanboyist attitudes and general dumbassery.

I'll note a good point about why you're wrong about C&C being simple rehashes - they provide a long running story that uses the previous title, or titles, as their base from which they build. Supreme Commander does not meet this simple requirement. C&C is more about the story and canon, which makes them all... HURR DURR different. Hell... they don't even play the same despite the similar setup. Even I know SupCom plays different to TA but that's not the main reason why I dislike it.

So. In the end, I really don't give two flying fucks what you think. Play SupCom, have your fun and enjoy it, just like I do with Command and Conquer.

Though... the fact you seem to take my dislike of the game so personally is somewhat amusing in itself.

ALL of you, fuck off. You're like fucking children. Kacen, stop being a complete douche, and CERTAINLY don't come crying to me when you need somone to lock a thread to stop yourself getting flamed to a fucking crisp.

You deserve it, you cretinous troll. I've half a fucking mind to ban you - you haven't got a good word to say about anyone, or anything, except Supreme Commander and fucking South Park.

Fen - Don't feed the fucking troll.

Let's return to the original topic then :wink_new:.

I actually went and read the previews and I've gotta say that didn't help any. I like the sound of some of the improvements (pathfinding for example) and the idea of more varied and cool-looking maps, however, the art design is pretty meh. Gone all cartoony and starcraft-ish... well, for a 2010 release they still have polishing time. I'll wait, though not very hopeful.

Kinda like DOW->DOW2. Completely changed the playstyle and it ruins the experience. At least it did for me on DOW2...

Eh well I like 'em both, I just play them when I'm in different moods. Thing is that if this gets cartoony and simplified, there's no reason for me to play it as there are enough cartoony and simplified games out there.

You gotta admit though, simple cartoonified games offer quite a bit more goofy fun than a serious game. :wink_new:

Oh, I agree. I never get tired of seeing that gleeful expression on the Heavy's face in TF2. Realism/semi-realism has its place though - if I'm going to be investing a large amount of time in a game (like fallout... large RTS games), I seem to prefer seeing something that looks a bit (key word bit) more real. And in that way it's bad for SC2 and me, because we'd have lots of fun with 3-hour games at LANs :wink_new:. If they try to make the game more casual and quick-playing, a cartoony art style becomes more approriate, but the original would not have succeeded at all if it had been cartoony. They were trying to go for scale, epicness and a sortof commander feel I suppose... suceeded in some ways, failed in others.

I guess I'm horribly spoiled by fast games since that's what I'm accustomed to playing. I've always had to play a lot of games, and not just RTS either, on my toes so it's always moved with me from game to game. Not always a 6 minute rush game but I play fast and think fast and SupCom never did cater to that style of play for me.

Even if SupCom2 supports that style of play, no resources or base building is extremely disappointing and stale. I need some form of resource management and base building to have a better RTS experience.

It looks like there will be base building of a sort. Can't be too sure what, but the screenshots show a lot of the same type of buildings as in the first one, turrets, fixed artillery, factories, mass extractors etc. It remains to be seen how much will be auto-built for you and how much you'll have to manange. And of course there will be resources that you'll have to balance (power and mass again)... again I don't think anybody knows how this "new" resource system will work outside of GPG, but from what's been said I think it will be something along the lines of Dawn of War 1. You'll have mass points, and you'll have generators to build anywhere - the revamped eco system will probably mean it's handled in a classical RTS sense, with a simple power/mass stockpile instead of the rate-based approach that SC now uses. All guesses though. Some of the more complex things lke assisting and adjacency are probably going to go, which sucks. I liked those, if nothing else, it made the base look really cool with all the power conduits going everywhere :wink_new:.

How can they call this a sequel when it doesn't even stay true to the first?

Soul 2.4

Background process. Has something to do with some activity going on somewhere. Sorting junkmail, I think. No value or interest. Doesn't do much except hog resource.

I cant believe that they will try to make an extremely complex rts be almost as simple as DOW2.
DOW1 was bad enough with imperial guard squads reinforcing at the same speed that you kill them. consoles are dooming the genre of RTS, I prefer a well planned attack in a 2 hour long game... rather than a "spam units that build in 2 seconds as fast as you can then select them all and click attack move to your enemy's command centre until it blows up" type games, or ones that get rid of resources and make it "control point" based.

ATTENTION GAME DEVELOPERS MAKE MORE HARDCORE RTS GAMES AND STOP MAKING DUMBASS RTS GAMES THAT HAVE NO BASE BUILDING OR STRATEGY BEYOND "SPAM OVER POWERED UNIT" ALSO STOP MAKING CRAPTACULAR Wii MOTION CONTROL SPORT TITLES THAT COST LESS THAN 20$!!!

I have a feeling they've watered it down to cater for the 'new' RTS console crowd. It's a shame really, SupCom was probably a step in the right direction as far as modern RTS games were concerned - but rather than address the games flaws, they've just gone where everyone else is :(
