What books are you reading, have you recently read or are you going to read?

I'm currently reading The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams (Part 2 of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). I also began reading First Family by David Baldacci, but then Bourne got in and I'm not going to read three books at the same time tongue.gif

I have about 13 unread books on the shelf and some more on my to-buy list.

I picked up the fourth book in Karl Schroeder's Virga set of novels the other day. Very good writing if you enjoy a semi-plausible, really complex and creative exercise in world-building. Or post technological maximum books...

Also rereading A Brief History of Time.

Currently reading poetry, namely Love is a dog from hell by Charles Bukowski. Finished rereading Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer a couple of days ago. Yes, all very American.

Edit: I'm also rereading Mike's awesome story, "Where There Be Monsters''. He's good.

Mike's awesome story is indeed awesome. Although currently I'm reading Dune, by Frank Herbert, so I win. Before that I read Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, which is one of my all-time favourite books ever in the history of always. Yeah, it's just that good.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

I'm about halfway through with Angels & Demons, and about the same with The Battle of Corrin. I really ought to finish those.

Last proper fictional book I read was the first book in "Malazan book of the fallen" series by Steven Erikson called "gardens of the moon". Very interesting way of writing fantasy. Plenty of violence, war, wizards, parallell dimensions, ascended mortals turned gods that play with puny humans for fun and power. If you can handle being thrown into a universe without being told everything about it on the first page, then i recommend it for you.

What I'm currently reading is "Lucifer - The Wolf Beneath the Tree" the 8th graphic novel pack in a Sandman spinoff series. I won't say what the background for the series is because it would spoil one of the books in the Sandman series, But suffice to say Lucifer is tired of the status quo and makes a move to change things up a bit. Quite interesting, mixes different mythologies and is defined as dark fantasy.

Beyond that I'm trying to read up on some bricks about PHP and MySQL. Going to go through one of the books from scratch and test out the examples so i understand what i'm doing.

Just finished Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Thompson, about to start The Butt by Will Self. Have to read for my 6th form book club, sounds a light-heated satirical piece.

Yeah, mike's story is amazing... although the last version he gave me was around a month ago. :p

I'm re-reading Brian Jacques' Redwall series. Nice, light-hearted fun, but epic enough to hold my attention now that I'm reading them as a teen. :p

LOVE THAT BOOK!

Oh, and Eragon has a lot of names that look like Tolkien's.

People complain about that a lot, but I say "so what!?". It's not very inventive or something, but it doesn't actually bother me in the slighest.

Better well stolen than badly conceived

Florisz and, alas, Beowulf: Dan Brown is a sin against literature. You shouldn't even do him the credit of burning his books. Instead, simply let them wither and fade in a box in your garage. 'Tis better than they deserve. His collected works are puerile drivel passed off as fact to the idiotic masses and written with no words containing more than two syllables. They are, at best, beach reading. You know, the kind of book you take on holiday because it's really fucking easy to read and you won't mind if you accidentally drop it in the sea. Or feed it to the sharks. Or feed the author to the sharks.

PS: Nice quote, 2play. :crazed:
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

They are, at best, beach reading.

But what's bad about beach reading? Sometimes, after working hard on complex things the whole day, a bit of reading a simple story is exactly what one needs :crazed:

What did you think of Fear and Loathing?

Oh and Dan Brown does suck. And I disagree with your quote, 2play, I really do. Eragorn is a fucking disgrace, very badly stolen. Not well at all.
