What did you think of Fear and Loathing?

Completely unlike anything I've read before. I thoroughly enjoyed the first person perspective, and it was very funny. Especially the descriptions of the policemen waiting around at the convention. Believably apt.
Only read two pages of The Butt... I think I'm gonna enjoy this. No more on it until I finish though.

Ah poop, I never got around to reading where there be monsters. At the moment I'm reading some summer reading stuff...almost done with Life of Pi and onto Stephen King's memoir book after that.

Please read 'Needful Things'. I feel the need to rant and show disappointment.

Why is that?

And that's also one of my summer reading books, if I didn't make that clear. Not sure if I would read it otherwise.

Oh, I won't say anything then. Needless to say, the guy who sat next to me in English and I have had many discussions about it.

Eragorn is a fucking disgrace, very badly stolen. Not well at all.

The quote referred to the giving things Elvish names like in LOTR, not the whole series (which I do actually like, even if it's not the best. Guess I'm just mainstream like that).

A long time ago, in a [galaxy/land] far, far away, there was a mystical order of peacekeepers known as [Jedi/Riders]. They kept the peace for thousands of years. However, it was too good to last. An evil [Sith/Dark Rider] corrupted another of the [Jedi/Riders] named [Vader/Morzan] and together, they destroyed the [Jedi/Riders]. Following this, they set up an Evil Empire. However, there was still hope. The son of [Vader/Morzan] grew up in a remote location with his uncle, not knowing of his parentage or his destiny. (In fact, he was not to learn of his parentage until an epic duel at the end of [Episode/Book] 2.) It was there that he met [Obi-wan/Brom], a former [Jedi/Rider] who had been friends with [Vader/Morzan] and later defeated his former friend in a duel, during which he took the defeated enemy's weapon. He gave [Luke/Eragon] this weapon. However, unfortunately, [Luke/Eragon]'s uncle was killed by servants of the Empire. Then...

Wrong, Ithilien. Obviously, some people haven't read Brisingr.

Still, the similarities are astonishing in their number..... ;)

If you've watched Star Wars, you just need to follow along with the plot until they rescue Princess Leia from Jabba's Palace. /cryptic description

I could go on like that for a long time.

So it's very much like Star Wars? Who cares?
1. I happen to like Star Wars
2. The third book steps away from that
3. Even if the grand story is already familiar, the details can still make a book fun. This is why reading harry potter for the 532th time is still fun, because you cannot remember all the details.

I second 2Play. It's a different setting; it DOES have some unique things to it; and Star Wars itself was based on recurring themes in popular stories and myths. While the books won't go down as the next great epic since LOTR, they are fairly well-written.

And as I hinted earlier, Brisingr does start to mix things up.
