Hi,

Im new to modding and I dont mod alot but, I recently got the elven alliance community edition mod and the mod itself is great but I wanted to know if it is possible for me to add the mount/dismount ability to the royal guards? the have the change weapon ability but its too bad they cant mount up and fight in their traditional style: on horse. So if it is possible please explain me how to do it so i can change it.

note: this is for personal use only im not making a mod or something. :good:

thx in advance

It can be done, but it is not something a beginner should try to tackle as it's pretty complicated. Here is the link to the tutorial though for your reference. :good:

oh thx man ill try it with the turtorial it cant be too hard huh?

edit: hey I see the turtorial is yours and its a good turtorial :p but could you explain exactly what I have to change? wich files etc..... becuz I see al these code things you have in your turtorial but I dont know wich part i have to use for the royal guard nor do I know where to put it. If its too much work or you just dont want to... thats ok with me I understand that but then I will have to experiment and all that so I thought an experienced coder like you might want to help me out?

edit: also the unit I want to give the mount/dismount ability already exists. Im not adding a whole new unit to the game I just want the royal Guards to have moun/dismount abilty and I think your tutorial explains how to add mount/dismount ability to a new unit not yet in the game with all these locmotors and the on foot animations and the sort, am I right?

IIRC, it's to edit an existing unit. You'll need the locomotors, because the units (and hordes) will need to be faster while mounted. (At least, I think most people would want the mounted version faster.)

One thing you do have to do is export two files in the scripts folder. These are scripts.xml and scripts.lua. They can be found in something like Data.big. Some of the code is in there.

I'd like to help you figure it out, but unfortunately, I myself have never gotten horde mounting to work at all.

On page two, there is some code for the unit. I'd expect this to be in a file called royalguard.ini or something, I don't know how this mod is organized. Best just run a search for "royalguard" or ask someone who would know.

Next page is on the files I mentioned earlier, which will need to be placed in the data/scripts folder, iirc.

Page four appears to be on the object again, same as the second page.

Page five is about the horde, which is an object to itself, located in another file somewhere.

The next one is for the banner carrier, which should probably be a new object, so you can put it wherever makes sense to you. Or perhaps not have a bc, that seems common for royal guard hordes, idk if it has a banner carrier in elven alliance. If there isn't one, I expect you can skip that page altogether. (It will save the issues with the bc mentioned in the tutorial.)

And the last page is simply problems you might have.
Greetings, community.

ok I understand almost everything you just said I only have a few questions:

1: where do I export de script files too? and what name do I give de exported files? I have to give them a filename and i geuss the name is important for the game to recognize it? Edit: I see you mentioned where too put the script files but I got a problem now, the script files you are talking about are because it is a mod in the ini.big and not in the data.big the mod doesnt use the vanilla folder of the game for the ini files and setting they are all in the elvenalliance.big and the elven alliance.big had to be placed in my battle for middle earth files so wtf do I do now? cant I just edit the script files in the elvenalliance.ini properly but let it in the ini without exporting it? Or is it neccesary at all to have these files edited or exported?

2: The royal guard has banner carriers in elven alliance but i think I skip that part, its not neccesary.
3: Do i just copy the codes given in the tutorial and change their names to royal guard or do I have to change some more?
thats it and thx in advance and for the explanation. :p

lol that doesnt look like a few questions. xD

edit: could you make a list of all the files i have to edit? also the lines i have to edit inside the files?
